Analysis of Data and Graphs

I thought it would be cool to compare the average life expectancy amongst the US states. I was hoping to see a distinct difference between city life and country life. I found out that Indiana has the highest life expectancy of 82.3 and Montana has the lowest of 74.4. This is only a 7.9 year range, which isn't that drastic. Most states have a life expectancy between 78 and 80 years.

The median was less than a year higher than the mean. I'm assuming that is because there are four that are very low and only one that it very high. They all cluster around the 78 to 80 range though. In the histogram you can see the group in which the mean and median both fall in, it's the highest. And the further away from the mean, the smaller the amount is. It almost looks like a balanced distribution, but it isn't very even on the sides.

I chose to separate the groups to where each one has a span of 2 years. Since there isn't a very big range, I figured separating it smaller would give me more sections and make it more interesting. I did start from 70, though, so there are two groups that didn't have anything in them. Besides that, there seems to be a good number of groups and the data falls neatly in them. We can see that most of the data falls into the category of 78 to 80 from each of our graphs.

Within each graph, we can see the peak, which has the most states fall into that group. The histogram and the line graph show pretty much the same data since I couldn't show anything over time with my data. The circle graph shows percentages which is cool. We can see that 54% of states have a life expectancy between 78 and 80. If I had to chose just one to represent my data, I would chose the circle graph. It shows my groupings as well as how many fall into each group. It also says the percentage out of the total 50, so with a little bit of math you could find out exactly how many is in each group, but it does give percentages already.
