Although I cannot remember what caused the conversation, I distinctly remember sitting with my mother at the dinner table and her words to me... "Kate, you can never judge another person. Or presume to know how someone else feels because everyone walks the world in different shoes." My mother taught me the lesson of empathy and to make sure that I respect everyone I meet and work to understand each person's unique life story.
