Dear Dr. Hadeel,

I came here after being graduated in 2014 from Umm Al-Qura University (UQU) as a Medical Technologist, working at King Saud bin Abdulaziz University (KSAU) for Health Sciences as a Laboratory Technologist. However, since I finished my internship and throughout my life career I was really interested in Hematology and so impressed about relevant subjects, therefore I tried all the ways and possibilities to get a real opportunity to complete my study in master degree. When I knew that King Abdulaziz University (KAU) is offering a master degree in medical technology with a track of Hematology as a major, I applied for the first time with knowing nothing about how the competition exam is working. Unfortunately, I didn’t pass the first time, and I got depressed as I mentioned previously I was so excited because finally I found a place near my workplace with its good reputation in my specialty, in addition to my boss supports as he gave me a permission to complete my study while keeping job at same time. Thus, I did all my efforts and spent one year preparing myself to apply again the following year, and here I am!

By the end of this semester, I will complete two semesters as a master student at KAU. I have been through many written assignments and seriously it was a shock for us because we did not used to write assignments through my bachelor’s journey!

From what I have been facing so far, the thing I love the most is that sometimes when my instructor tells me to look for a certain information, I really enjoy searching and reading, especially if what I am looking for is a sufficient given information and not vague with having several ways of self-learning and searching resources. However, what I do not like is when this searchable information is included in my final exam and I didnot write the preferred word which is what he is looking for! For sure I will get ZERO in that question, truly, this kind of instructors make me worried and hate self-learning and I prefer to stick to the instructors’ handouts and his own words rather than answer it my own way! I believe that this totally not fair.

Honestly, starting master with a very new style of writing in exams, short reports, long assignments was a bit challenging personally. As I used to have my exams in a form of multiple choices questions (MCQs) with one very short essay through my bachelor’s years. Therefore, I started to improve my skill of writing by reading more about the basics skills on writing an academic essay. Afterwards I registered on course to improve myself further but unfortunately I could not complete it with the loads. I started to practice on how to write a full answer and show that I truly can support myself by this new skill through my exams along the whole master’s years. The second challenging for me were presenting a presentation in a limited time and group discussion. I could merely remember that I did it only once in my bachelor’s days. Currently, I’m really enjoying doing these tasks with my partners especially when we talk about stuff we already know about to either discuss or present them. I believe that all those hard works will encourage me to show my most effort and get me more comfortable to present my skills in speaking while I am talking either in a group discussion or presenting a talk publically. Finally, I would say that I am really glad for what I’m having currently, all these gained skills had improved my personality my learning skills, my way of thinking, and I am sure by the end of the master I will gain further more. I would finish my report with this statement: “No pain, no gain”.

Sincerely.

When I first read the title of lecture- Hemolytic Anemia- I thought it would be concerned with things that already knew. I expected it to be boring and in the classical way of teaching especially in this master program because most of the lectures we covered it in the bachelor and unfortunately, sometimes with the same lecturer. However, when Dr. Hadeel talks about the assessment methods, I was excited. By the end of this lecture, I felt so excited about writing the reflection.

Dear Dr. Hadeel,

First of all, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your help and hard work. I feel that you were very supportive and professional.

The second point, regarding the group articles, searching and reading about Paraxymenal nocturnal hemoglobinuria was interesting to me. I’m working on the flowcytometry section and I read about PNH test done by the flow cytometry machine but still, I didn’t start it in my facility. The work on this article has helped me to know more about PNH in details especially in the relationship between PNH and associated diseases (discussion part). Another important thing that I gained was about how can I summarize and select the important points in the article. Moreover, I gained good presentation skills and time management.

The third point, regarding kahoot! game, as we know that keeping the audience’s attention is very hard. By using this method is a good way for trying to keep the student’s attention for long period in the lecture.

Finally, regarding the reflection, I like this method of assessment. in my opinion, this method encourages the students to give their opinion and feedback confidently and independently. Moreover, that will help the teaching facilitator to develop him/her work and task in the appropriate way. In addition help in the development of the educational system.

In summary, these different ways have helped me in many aspects and I become more confident and I really liked the reflective assignment that provided to encourage the student skills and evaluate the education style at the university. Actually, I did enjoy it and it was so useful to me.

Best regards,

Fatima Alamoodi

Dear Dr.Hadeel,

In the following reflection I will talk about what I have learned during hemolytic anemia lectures . I will also explain how I have attempted to overcome my weaknesses especially when l presented the case study.

The biggest thing I have learned from this course is that How I can be a good presenter in English language . I like to be a good presenter because I like teaching students and the problem is that how l can present if the students language is not Arabic.

I like this course for two reasons; first because I have learned how I can present case study with management in time. Second, because I truly wanted to learn in much details about hemolytic anemia .

I am glad I took the hemolytic anemia lectures but I have some comments on them. First, the lectures were difficult and have too much informations. I know l am a master student but if the lectures have given in more time, maybe l can understand it.

I think my strength is that I am very insistent to learn about hemolytic anemia and I learned how to read case study and how to take important informations from it. My difficulties were in understanding the information of the course because there are some informations difficult and I did not get it.

I promise you l will do the best of the best to pass these lectures by studying very hard to improve my weaknesses on them.
Wejdan AlQahtani
