         <description><![CDATA[<p>In English criminal law this is murder. A person is not allowed to consent to their own death.</p><p>Pretty v DPP (2002) - Diane Pretty had motor neurone disease and wanted her husband to assist her suicide. She took her case to the European Court of Human Rights claiming that not being able to have her husband assist her suicide was against her human rights. Claimed it was against:</p><p>Article 2 - right to life</p><p>Article 3 - prohibition of torture</p><p>Article 8 - respect for family and private life</p><p>Article 9 - freedom of thought and conscience</p><p>The ECHR dismissed her appeal on all counts </p>]]></description>
