The affective network works on individuals' emotions and how they stay engaged and motivated. Teachers need to give feelings of affirmation to their students. In many instances, students are stressed and have difficulty managing their emotions throughout the school day. This can be for numerous reasons such as giving a presentation or having conflicts during recess. Students need guidance on how to express and cope with emotions. An example is if a student is feeling anxious before an exam show them breathing exercises to relax.

This network helps us recognize and categorize what we learn. For example, this part of the brain helps children identify which letter is which by the sounds and the looks of the letter.

This network is related to executive functions. This helps students plan and organize themselves. In the classroom, strategic action would be identify a goal, design a substitute plan, execute the plan, self monitor, and adjust the action. When writing a nonfiction piece it would be good use this strategic action plan.
Planning is important to me and I always start with what my goal is and think of various ways I will execute it.

"Personal qualities and abilities continually shift, and they exist not within the individual but in the intersection between the individual and their environment, in a vast, complex, ever-changing dynamic balance." The brain is always learning something new and making connections through experience. It is important to recognize every student celebrate their variability.

These three networks combine well with each other and made me think about how to help students develop into expert learners. I wasn't sure before on how to help students handle their stress when they have a lot on their plate. I now see with practice and guidance teachers can help students achieve their goals using strategies and organization skills.
