As someone working with Pure Bayanihan, watching the personal life stories from the raw interviews of our beneficiaries and the communities that Pure Bayanihan has reached always leaves a mark on my heart ❤️. I feel very fortunate to be able to listen to their inspiring "mala-MMK" stories. All the laughter, behind-the-scenes moments, emotional cries, and expressions of gratitude truly show the impact that Pure Bayanihan has created. They have also taught me how to be more understanding and empathetic toward every person’s situation. I'd bring these all with me wherever I go.

Before there were livelihoods, there were food packs! (Our family's little Bayanihan during the pandemic in 2021)

Our very first project—the Food Packs initiative—was just a pilot. The team didn't even have a name yet! (True story: the community even asked us who they should thank because there was no tarpaulin, no signage, no logo—nothing official at all).

The idea was just to learn how to collaborate with communities before we even thought about becoming a nonprofit.

I started out as one of the partner advocates (aka. just a friend and colleague!) I remember the core group asking if I had a community in my network that I'd like to help. As we know in the Philippines, someone always knows someone who needs help. In our case, we had just moved to Bulacan and knew of families in Balagtas hit hard by pandemic layoffs.

None of us—not my family, not the core team—had ever done anything like this before. But we just said, "Sige, let's start something." We got a list of beneficiaries together, budgeted the groceries, and planned the distribution.

It was amazing how everyone helped; it really became a family affair! My Nanay led the logistics, I put the orders together, my tita helped distribute, my husband and my sister documented it with photos, and the church members did the rest of the legwork. It was true bayanihan in our little household, in our little town.

I think close to 100 families went home that day with their food packs and a sense of hope, knowing their family's needs were covered for the next couple of months. So many were reminded that God loves them, sees them, and has not forgotten them.

After that came a few more amazing projects in this little corner of Bulacan, but this first one is the most memorable for me. It made me incredibly proud of my network here and opened my eyes to what’s possible when we live out the bayanihan spirit in whatever shape and form we can. It made me look forward to doing even more good with the same good folks.

And that’s exactly what we’ll continue to do.

Thank you, Pure Bayanihan, for planting the seeds—you’ve inspired so many .

As our journey together comes to a close this September, my heart is filled with gratitude and a touch of sadness. It has been an honor to serve as your Program Director and to work alongside each of you to build a better future for our communities.

My time here has been marked by countless unforgettable moments, but one in particular stands out: our very first project, the food pack distribution during the pandemic. This project was even before Pure Bayanihan was formally launched. We were still with Demand Science then, and Barry wanted to provide food packs to employees in Pampanga and Bulacan. Even with all the travel restrictions, we managed to execute the project. Through our collective bayanihan spirit and with the help of everyone, we successfully completed the project. That moment left a mark on my heart, reminding me of the profound impact of our work and the power of empowering people to create their own change.

As I close this chapter and seek new opportunities, I will carry the spirit of Pure Bayanihan with me. The work we have done together, from developing programs to building relationships, is a legacy of which I am immensely proud.

Our team at Pure Bayanihan is built on a shared mission to provide livelihoods for communities. For a long time, we were a group of dedicated colleagues, working hard together and focused on achieving our professional goals. That all changed during our team's Cebu getaway.

Stepping away from our desks and into that more relaxed environment allowed us to connect on a different level. Over shared meals and while exploring the beautiful scenery of Cebu, we started to see each other as individuals, not just teammates. We shared stories and laughter, building a bond that went beyond our professional roles and turned us into genuine friends.

When we returned to work, everything felt different. Our work, which was already important, now felt personal. The friendships we formed made our shared purpose even more meaningful. We weren't just a team of colleagues anymore; we were a group of friends supporting each other and passionately working together toward a cause that felt closer to our hearts than ever before.

The most powerful moments for our team aren't found in the office or even during our amazing getaways; they are in the success stories of the people we've helped. We spend our days looking at charts and figures, and while the numbers show our progress, it's the stories that bring our purpose to life.

A perfect example of this is our Souvenir and Tarpaulin Printing Shop project. Our mission was to provide a sustainable livelihood for out-of-school youth in San Quintin, giving them a chance to build a future for themselves.

I'll never forget the feeling of watching their progress. As they learned the trade, their confidence grew, and they took ownership of the business. It was truly inspiring to see their determination to succeed. Their drive was so great that they even took the initiative to pursue additional certifications like the TESDA NC II in Electrical Installation and Maintenance. This showed they weren't just looking for a temporary fix; they were investing in long-term skills and a brighter future.

In the end, it reminds us that our purpose goes far beyond just providing livelihoods. We aren't simply helping to start a printing shop; we're helping to build resilient, self-sufficient communities. Their success stories prove that our work is a catalyst for lasting change.

I’ll always remember the time during the pandemic — those days were really hard for everyone, but they also became one of the most meaningful parts of my life. That was when I started volunteering for what was then just the beginning of the Bayanihan project — it wasn’t even called Pure Bayanihan yet.

We went around different communities to check who truly needed help, so we could give them food packs. It was tiring and emotional, but it was also very fulfilling. What made it more special was doing it with my family and relatives. We helped each other pack the items, and through that, I really felt the true meaning of bayanihan — people coming together to help others.

The best part was seeing the smiles and gratitude from those we were able to help. Many of them said that the food came right when they needed it the most. That moment touched me deeply. I realized how powerful even small acts of kindness can be.

Even though the project was still small at that time, it already made such a big impact — not just on others, but on me too. It’s a memory I’ll always keep in my heart.

Another unforgettable moment for me was when we gave livelihood assistance — including water pumps, seedlings, and fertilizers — to our hardworking farmers in Nueva Ecija. This project was very special to me because it was actually my first-ever assignment as a Project Associate, while also volunteering and serving as the beachhead (community coordinator) for the area.

Through this experience, I got a deeper understanding of what it truly means to be a community leader on the ground — someone who leads, connects, and carries out a project directly with the people. It gave me a whole new level of respect for others doing the same work in different communities.

What made it even more emotional for me was the fact that we returned to a place where my family used to live. And now, I came back bringing something meaningful — something that could really help change lives.

I also had the chance to hear stories from the farmers themselves — stories that opened my eyes to the reality of their lives. They work so hard under the sun, facing so many challenges just to grow the food we eat every day, yet many of them barely earn enough to survive. Despite that, they remain humble and hopeful. I truly salute all our farmers for their strength and sacrifice.

Seeing the joy and disbelief on their faces when they received the livelihood packages was priceless. Some of them couldn’t even believe that help like this would reach them. It was such a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do — to bring hope, support, and change, one community at a time.

If I had to choose one truly unforgettable experience, this would probably be it — that time we had to ride a habal-habal on a narrow mountain road, just wide enough for the motorbike’s wheels, with a steep cliff right beside us. After that, we crossed a river on a small boat, and then hiked for hours over rocky, uneven trails to reach a remote community.

The water level was low that time, so we had to walk a long way. I was told that if the water had been higher, the boat could have taken us straight to the area where the beneficiaries lived. But honestly, despite how exhausting it was, all the effort was worth it.

When we finally arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and smiles by the community. At that moment, I realized — we weren’t just bringing a project; we were bringing hope. And that feeling is something I’ll never forget.

That experience took me completely out of my comfort zone. It was raw, real, and unlike anything I had ever done before. It opened my eyes to the realities of life in far-flung communities — things you don’t usually see or feel unless you’re actually there.

It was spontaneous, challenging, and beautiful all at the same time. And in the middle of it all, I found purpose, connection, and the true meaning of service.

A Cultural Experience to Remember

One of the moments I’m truly grateful for was getting the chance to experience and join in their cultural and traditional dance. It was actually my first time doing something like that.

At first, I felt a bit shy and hesitant — I wasn’t sure if I’d do it right or if I’d look awkward. But out of respect for their culture and as a way of connecting with the community, I joined in. And I’m so glad I did.

It was more than just dancing — it was a moment of sharing, of showing respect, and of embracing their beautiful traditions. I felt welcomed, accepted, and deeply honored to be part of something so meaningful.

Experiences like this remind me why I’m grateful to be part of Pure Bayanihan — because it’s not just about helping, it’s about learning, connecting, and growing with the communities we serve.

A Special First Meeting with Ms. Cara

This photo is very special to me because it was the very first picture I captured with Ms. Cara — and also the very first time I met her in person. I consider it such a blessing to have crossed paths with someone like her. From that very first encounter, I already saw how kind and genuine she was.

What makes it even more memorable is that she isn’t just kind, but also such an encourager. She has this gift of lifting people up with her words, making you feel seen, valued, and capable.

This picture may look simply, but for me, it marks the beginning of knowing someone whose heart reflects kindness, positivity, and encouragement. And for that, I will always be grateful.

That kind of experience is rare, and I’m so thankful for it.

So, to Pure Bayanihan — thank you for this beautiful memory. Thank you for believing in me when I was just starting, and for giving me moments like this that I’ll carry with me forever.

I’m truly thankful to Pure Bayanihan — because of this journey, I had the chance to meet and work with the amazing people of RMFB1. From the 101st, 102nd, 103rd, 104th, 105th, including TSC, they’ve become more than just partners in the mission — they’ve become part of my extended family.

It was through Pure Bayanihan that I got to know them — and through them, I experienced so many firsts: trying new food, visiting new places, and even going on unexpected adventures like firing (yes, the real thing!) 😄

But what I value most is their genuine heart for service — how they go above and beyond to find communities in need and do what they can to help. I’ve learned so much from them, and I’ll always be grateful for their support, their friendship, and the bond we built along the way.

So again, thank you, Pure Bayanihan, for leading me to people who inspire, serve, and make this mission even more meaningful.

The Heart of Bayanihan Lives On

I am deeply honored and beyond grateful to have been part of Pure Bayanihan’s beautiful mission—to help uplift communities by providing sustainable livelihoods and offering hope where it’s needed most.

As an accountant, my world often exists within the quiet, familiar walls of my little office—just me, my laptop, and my calculator. It’s a world of numbers and routines. But being part of this extraordinary movement opened my eyes—and my heart—to something far greater than myself.

One of the most unforgettable moments of this journey was visiting a community in Pangasinan. There, I met hardworking farmers and passionate community leaders who welcomed us with open arms. I listened to their stories—stories of struggle, perseverance, and hope—and saw, up close, the real impact of this bayanihan spirit. It was humbling in ways I can’t fully put into words. It made me realize how powerful it is to step outside our comfort zones and choose to live for something bigger than ourselves.

Pure Bayanihan taught me that kindness, when shared, multiplies. That true fulfillment comes not from what we achieve for ourselves, but from what we’re able to give to others.

Though this chapter comes to a close this September, the spirit of Bayanihan — of unity, compassion, and collective hope — will stay with me forever.
