To be a video editor, you have to graduate high school and have at least a bachelor's degree from college. You have to have experience with editing software, film, and also the editing technology. Going to arts and media colleges are also preferred. Editing comes with many different kinds of software that you have to get used to. However, there are some pros and cons about the job. One con about video editing is that if you use film that somebody else had made you can be under suspicion of copyright for using what doesn't belong to you. You may also have to invest your own money into equipment if the job does not provide certain items. One pro is the median pay of an editor is about $61,750 a year but can start from $26,270 and up to $155,840. Similar jobs include videographers, producers, software engineers, animators, and even photographers.
