I ask patients if they are spiritual, religious, or not so much as part of my visits. I am also someone who is not religious but is surrounded by believers in my family and friends and at work. After one of my twins was unexpectedly stillborn, I remember having a colleague tell me it was so wonderful that my daughter was in heaven with Jesus. I felt so angry and separate and alienated.

I am here to support and advocate for you and your loved one."

I am a non-believer, so this has helped me as a Hospice RN to know that I can be comforting to people as well. Sometimes it's hard for me to approach the religious and spiritual subjects because I don't understand as much about those areas. Thank you for sharing this with us!
