I will do this by Gathering inspiration from fashion shows, social media platforms, and art books to inform myself. I will create a moodboard for each of my final looks. Additionally I will conduct trials for each look, testing different makeup styles and nail art techniques.

Compile a complete book and guide for my brand that includes elements of color theory, styling tips, and the creative process behind each look, ensuring it serves as a valuable resource for future launch.

Can you describe your journey as a nail technician and what inspired you to start your own studio?

At 16 years old, I was eager to find a job as I dropped out of highschool, but I knew traditional office work wasn’t for me. I felt bored and unfulfilled while working at a local restaurant, especially as my parents faced financial struggles. During that time, I took the initiative to teach myself various skills related to beauty and self-care. Eventually, I decided to invest in my passion by enrolling in beauty school, where I could pursue my interests more seriously. 

What are some key techniques you believe every nail technician should master?

Understanding nail preparation is crucial, including how to properly shape and buff the nails. This creates a flawless foundation for the design. It's also essential to know which resources to use and to practice both polish and gel application techniques. 

How do you stay updated with the latest trends in nail care and design?

Oh that’s an easy question to answer. Social Media, XHS and Pinterest are my Best Friends. There are so many nail techs that post their work and it inspires me. 

What is your process for selecting products and tools for your services?

I'm not entirely sure how to answer this. For essential base products, I tend to invest more money, while I spend less on charms and design tools. I prioritize reputable brands and experiment with various options to determine what works best for my clients. Of course, my choices also depend on the condition of their nails. 

How do you balance creativity with the practical aspects of being a nail technician?

I like to practice creativity on my own time because most clients don't get as elaborate of a design! It’s honestly hard to establish a balance because nobody wants inconvenient nails. 

How do you come up with looks to do on yourself/client?

I refer to whatever inspiration I find/What my client gives me and work with that. If it's an instance where they ask me to freestyle then I'll just ask for preferred colours and charms to use.

What inspired you to create your zine "NODAYZOFF," and what themes do you explore in it?

The title reflects my constant hard work, which is why I named it that. There isn’t a specific theme; it primarily consists of sketches, my professional work, and some collage pieces I created using Adobe. 

Can you walk us through your creative process for making a zine from concept to publication?

I scanned all my physical media, uploaded my Procreate work, and incorporated After Effects in Photoshop. I then put everything together using Adobe Illustrator, and I had a lot of fun in the process! I feel fortunate to have friends who work at various concept stores, allowing me to self-publish my work and distribute it in stores, as well as sell it online. Overall, it was a straightforward process. Hahaha! 

How do you gather inspiration for the content and visuals in your zines?

Video games. Anime. Books I own. My friends. Everything around me. Being in a creative environment means a lot of creative input. 

What challenges have you encountered while creating zines, and how have they shaped your work?

Honestly…Little to no challenges. It was just annoying to compile everything together. 

What advice would you give to someone interested in starting their own zine?

DO WHAT YOU WANT. DON’T ASK ME.

Onying has been my mentor for many years now and she is incredibly knowledgeable in creative direction. It will be useful for me to reach out to her for design inspiration and just overall direction for where I want to take this project. 

Taku is a close friend of mine that has worked in the arts for years. It will be helpful to ask him about his process for creating his zine “NODAYZOFF” in order to garner inspiration for my final project. 

My nail beds itself have been facing a lot of damage because of how much i've been practicing over the last couple months so I'm working around that too.

The good news is I've found a photographer to work with for this project. Im refining my final goal to be a series of photos featuring makeup + nails ive done myself.
