- Sea life and birds die from eating plastic or getting tangled in it.
- Sea animals die a slow and painful death.
- Dioxins in plastics have cancer causing agents.
- There are now more than 5 trillion pieces of plastic in the ocean.
- In some places there is more plastic than plankton. Sea animals commonly eat plastic thinking it is plankton.
-Chemicals migrate to the muscles of the fish which is the part we eat and fish provides 3 billion people with protein.
- There are patches of rubbish (gyres) in every single one of our oceans.
- The plastic is eaten by fish, then by humans, with uncertain affects on human health.
- 90% of seabirds and 50% sea turtles have plastic in their stomach.
- Ocean water is now 30% more acid than they were 50 years
-By 2050, there will be more plastic than fish.

- Returning plastic back to the manufacturer to reuse.
- Plasma laser to turn plastic into it's natural form.
- Plant based plastic so it can be composed.
- Wrap in paper not plastic
- Glass or steel bottles that are not coloured.
- Recycle plastic so they can be used again to make other products.
- Waste converted into diesel.
- Recycled plastics can be turned into new nurdles instead of making new plastic products.
- Refuse single use plastic.
- Think reusable, not disposable.
- Paper bags over plastic bags
- Metal bottle over plastic bottles
- Metal or paper straws over plastic straws.
- Honey wrap over plastic/cling wrap
- Ocean clean up foundation developing a floating device that aims to collect plastic from the oceans. It doesn't require ships to pull it.
- Avani Eco has created an eco--friendly plastic bag that you can eat. It's made out of casava, the vegetable root which is a staple in diets of many in Africa, Latin America and Asia, but which can be used in manufacturing.
- Disposable paper cups with an origami-like technique that removes the need for plastic lid.
- Food wrappings and sachets out of a seaweed-based material that can be dissolved in water or eaten.
- Weekly beach clean ups
