I really liked the discussions of the readings, the padlet (as well) to engage with the readings, especially in our smaller breakout groups. The breakout groups were also a great way to engage in the material and with each other, through discussion. I pretty much think breakout sessions are the best way to emulate in-person class discussion, that helps process and work through independent learning (i.e. readings and writing), and allow for sharing and working through ideas and the material in a productive space. I think these breakout sessions are where 50% at least, of the learning we do in class, comes from (totally made up stat based off of personal observations alone, but I stand by it). :)

I think it would be helpful to have time to present and get feedback before our final proposals are due-- mainly because I think the process of presenting and thinking out-loud helps you realize areas for improvement and most importantly, what's missing/ how everything connects. I think there are things that I realized yesterday while presenting, that I wish I had the opportunity to improve before handing in my final proposal.

Going off of that thought -- I think it's really hard to write so technically, especially when there are probably varying levels of comfort and knowledge w regard to these types of proposals, and so it may have been helpful to have classes explicitly practicing this, where we write AIMS and Approaches together? Like almost a class project/proposal that emulates our individual processes undertaken to produce our own proposals. I think the class speakers (guests) were helpful in understanding real world context of community health promotion and applies methods, tools, theories, etc. but the quality of speakers ranged, and I think I only learned from a couple. Less is more on that front, I think, and I would have benefited greatly from opportunity to practice and work on the proposals.

Finally, WRT understanding proposal writing, I think what you covered yesterday in class, noticing strengths and weaknesses of proposals, would have been really helpful to have known before they were due or while we were writing these sections. Especially because past classes have written these proposals and it's probably pretty similar every year, these guidelines would be really helpful likely for future classes. I know my program eval. class has insanely specific expectations and details for what goes into each section of the program eval., but it's honestly really helpful to have those details up front to help focus. I don't think it stifles creativity either, as our proposals are aiming to be innovative etc.

Other than those suggestions, what an amazing class.

:)

I appreciated the required readings; their contextual relevance to study modules and their ability to generate deep discussion.s I also appreciated the guest speakers who brought a field experience perspective to what we were learning. Additionally, I liked that the learning environment created a collaborative open forum where each of us could provide input/feedback drawing from our respective backgrounds and experiences, making for a rich learning environment.

I'd echo Cynthia's perspective on the need to allocate more time to discussions on the required readings. It appeared that we either didn't have the time to discuss the readings, or the allotted time was not enough; things were left unexplored.
