1. You inhale air from your nose or mouth, which then travels down to your throat and into the windpipe. From there the air is divided into air passages, also known as the bronchial tubes.

2. From the bronchial tubes the air passes through the lungs which then divided into smaller air passages, known as the bronchioles and end up in the alveoli, little balloon like sacs. *The human body has over 600 million of these*.

3. From the alveoli it goes to the capillaries which are mesh of tiny blood vessels. From here oxygen is transferred to the blood and the cardiovascular system begins where the heart receives the oxygen and then pumps it to the rest of the body tissue and organs.

The process of inhalation and exhalation is the way the body brings in oxygen and gets rid of CO2. Everytime you inhale the diaphragm (a large dome-shaped muscle under the lungs) creates something like a vacuum where a rush of air goes into the lungs. When you exhale, the opposite happens and your diaphragm relaxes allowing your lungs to deflate.
