https://padlet.com/rettasil/nfk623ipie7o In an era when most of our students claim that more learning happens outside the walls of the classroom than inside it, it is necessary to examine our practices and make creative use of all the school resources available so that we can re-imagine and re-purpose our schools. One possible way of removing barriers which undermine creativity and imagination is by bringing the energy and reality of the world into our classrooms. The new technologies can facilitate this process by broadening the learning experience so that it happens all the time – in and out of the classroom. With the aid of technology, it is possible to engage our learners in enriching and inspiring tele-collaborative tasks which do not only enhance curricular content and cross-cultural learning but can also help develop their language(s) and their digital skills as well as other XXIc. core skills. This presentation aims at examining possible ways of pulling down classroom walls by engaging learners in the exploration and evaluation of ideas and projects which promote problem solving and design thinking as well as intercultural encounters which could foster the exchange of ideas and discussions about local, regional and global issues. By exploring innovative and challenging teaching practices we would be facilitating our learners’ understanding of the need to play the role of agents of change, a type of understanding which can only be reached in supportive communities of practice such as the “wall-less” schools.
