In a Personal Project, you have the freedom to choose a topic that you personally like. With the given freedom comes a great responsibility of wisely choosing the topic you want to focus on, I believe that it can be one of the most difficult parts of a Personal Project.

My topic for my Personal Project was programming. Talking more specifically, my topic was more about learning it and demonstrating the process of how I did it.

Criterion A: Investigating
  • Mainly focuses on research 
  • You define your Topic, Goal and Global Context which are all based of your own personal interest 

Criterion B: Planning 
  • Mainly focuses on planning your outcome
  • You develop your criterias for your final product. 
  • Furthermore, you need to demonstrate self-management and planning skills.

Criterion C: Taking Action 
  • Mainly focuses on you taking action towards the creation of a product which corresponds to your goal, global context and topic.
  • Additionally, in this crearia you have to show your communication and social skills.

Criterion D: Reflection
  • In this final step you need to evaluate and reflect on your product.
  • However, you also need to reflect on how your skills developed, and how you developed as an IB learner.

1. Pandemic 
 
One of the major differences from the other years of PP, is the current pandemic. Pandemic affected many areas of life and subsequently the PP. The major differences that we had to adapt to is the quarantine which often limited our interaction with other people and our supervisors, uncertainties regarding the events, sudden challenges of plans and more. Due to this, it was important to overcome those challenges by utilizing critical thinking and quickly adapting to new conditions in order to successfully complete PP.

2. Time management 

Time management was a crucial skill for managing the available, but quite limited  resources such as time and energy. I believe that I have done a lot of blunders in following my plans and deadlines. I have often missed the target dates that I have set on my plans. Thus, I tried to overcome this by identifying the problem why I have missed the deadline, I reflected on it, and then created a solution in order to solve the problem.

3. Acquiring new knowledge 

My outcome was focusing a lot on how much I can learn of a certain thing, in a given amount of time. Thus, I challenged myself in order to see how much I can learn, as well as to test my abilities.

Can I say that you can learn Python in 30 days? Well, not really. What I have shown in my book, is that in 30 days, I haven’t fully learned Python, but I have built a solid foundation for my future learning. Those 30 days gave me a very strong base knowledge which will help me in deepening it and as I create more and more projects, it will certainly help me. 

If you, just like me, did not have any prior knowledge in python beforehand, and you know that you really want to learn programming and Python. I would recommend you to just go and do it. It will be hard, but if you stay consistent and keep moving  forward, one day you will realise how far you’ve come and how much you achieved by staying persistent.
