Once my mom made pizza for my dad. He dug into it and suddenly spit it out like a dragon breathing fire. It was still very hot. He yelled, "Damn Christine, are you trying to kill me?!" My brother and I laughed and laughed, and we talk about that funny memory often.

There was no one like my dad. He was the most patient, level-headed person I've known. He had a knack for everything, and worked so hard to make a great life for us. He was always there for me and I couldn't ask for more.

I always considered Mr. Walker to be one of those "larger than life" people. Perhaps it was just because I was a little kid and adults were much bigger to our little eyes, but he seemed to carry that with him even into the latter years. He was such a nice guy and I have some good memories of him from my Cub Scout days. I'll never forget him helping us boys learn to use a Dutch oven to make the most delicious peach cobbler. I was so impressed by how he used charcoal briquettes to heat the whole thing. It just blew my mind. Another time, I was riding in the old Dodge pickup with him and Christopher on our way into the snowy mountains to gather Christmas trees to sell for our annual Scout fundraiser. He shared hot chocolate with us and proved he was a great driver in the snow. I also can't forget being a young volunteer fire fighter and looking up to him as a perfect example of how to be the best volunteer you can be. Finally, working at Frank Lumber and seeing him almost daily, and him waving back to us young guys on the chain, really made me feel more significant. It's surprising how one's self esteem is impacted by such a trivial act like waving back to someone, but he always had the time of day for everyone and I think that speaks volumes about his character. I know he'll be missed dearly, but he left such a great impact on everyone he met and I'm certain he'll always be remembered for it. Rest in Peace, Mr. Walker.
