This book club is important to me because it gives me the opportunity to hear the perspectives and voices of everyone, from those who are my age - to those who are younger and experiencing things I went through along with new experiences.

I feel heard when sharing in the club. I also feel like I'm providing something when sharing in the club. I know that y'all now know how I feel and think.

I want teachers to know that conversations like the ones we have had should be had in the classroom for everyone to experience. I also feel like they should provide more of these books that represent other cultures so students not only have mirrors to look into, but windows for those who might not understand or have ever been through these kind of things.

I define Chica Fuerte as inspiring and open minded. We have done a lot of talking in our time together and this has inspired me to want to do more like this with my future classrooms and has made me see just how open minded we all are to be able to take in each others perspectives and share our own.

1. The work that we do in this community is so important because it gives us an opportunity to discuss our experiences and opinions with each other in a safe space.
2. We have created a community that is kind and accepting and because of this I feel comfortable to share my thoughts and ideas.
3. I think that something that teachers can take away from our book club is that we focus on books that can really be mirrors for most of the girls involved. It can be very difficult to find books such as these or to find time to focus on books like these simply because they are not part of the standard curriculum. However, most of these books can be perfect for teaching in class because they meet many of the curricular requirements.
4. A chica fuerte is a girl who is resilient has a strong sense of self that help her overcome life's challenges.

to me i think this book club helps me not only grow intellectually but also emotionally and mentally because it allows me room for a safe place to connect and share with others. Personally i feel great about sharing and presenting in the club because i dont feel pressure and i know that its a safe space. Some things i think teachers could bring into there teaching is more questions and sort of opening the class up to speak freely. I would want teachers to know more about not just what we do here but how we do it because here i feel safe and not overwhelmed to say or think anything i just sort of go with the flow and i think thats something we really need more of in classrooms. i define Chica Fuerte as someone whos empowered, someone who knows there worth and strength and uses it to accomplish great things and inspires others.

1. The work in the book club is important to me because I feel it allows us an opportunity to work towards more representation of our communities and people like us.
2.I feel very comfortable sharing in the book club because they've created a safe place for us to share without judgement of our thoughts and opinions.
3. I want them to know its a safe place made to represent all latinas which is why it's important for them to make their classrooms as open as creative and open to all people as possible.
4. To me means a strong girl who isn't afraid to share her thpughts and opinions in order to get the representation she deserves.

For a long time I wished I could look up to anyone as a latin girl, as an immigrant too. Reading book about girls like me gives me courage to keep going or realize that in sometime I could have handled problems differently or appreciate my family more.

I feel really confident, like I can talk about anything and I wouldn't be judged I would be understood, I notice many of us think very differently but still have a lot of common and we can relate.

I want teachers to give more representation, mostly the school district since they have these "TEKS" and a plan of things we have to be taught every year, I wish we could read books that have more lgbtq+ representation as well as characters with more ethnicities and/or nationalities.

I define a chica fuerte as a girl who is strong to stand on their ground and know what is right and not backup.

I think this club is useful in a way where we can express our struggles, but i really enjoy this club personally because of the things school doesn't take in to consideration, like for example latin culture or studies. I loved that this club showed history that was never shared before,n stories that were never shown before in a normal school environment. This club has become a really nice place for me to look forward to on saturday's.

1.) To learn and listen to the perspectives of everyone in the group. And, to learn more about the lives of my UT students & our young Latinas, helps me to make sense of my own life. I really miss teaching, and this group brings me back to that. It helps me to be a better teacher and teacher educator.
2.) I like to hear perspectives from everyone and it helps me see the story and character in new ways.
3.) There are new books. I know we have our favorites. There are new books to read alongside your students. Know your students, too, and find books that relate to their lives. All voices are important to hear and learn from.
4.) From the characters, I think of evolving and changing - constantly. I think of finding oneself, and learning about yourself. I think of struggle and joy and love.

The work in this book club is important to me because it allows me to connect with protagonistas in which I never had the opportunity to read, share, or write about. It allows me to come in community with other chicas and create inter generational connections.
Presenting in this club has allowed me to unpack some of my own feelings and work with my own Latinidad. I enjoy hearing the perspectives of everyone involved and our shared experiences.
Teachers should know that these spaces and conversations are needed. They deserve to be given and students deserve the right to take ownership of their own learning without repercussions of standardized testing or curriculum calendars.
To me, a Chica Fuerte is a mujer poderosa. She is a person who evolves, grows, learns.
