According to Jennette, “ A few days after Mom and Dad brought me home, I cooked myself some hot dogs. I was hungry Mom was at work on a painting and no one else was there to fix them for me.” on page 15 this shows an example of self-sufficiency.  Self- Sufficiency plays a very impactful role to a child because they are supposed to be dependent on their parents. Jeannette was about 3 when she cooked her first hot dog by herself and that lead to the hospital with a third-degree burn. After, her father broke her out of " Rex Walls Way" she continue to make hot dogs for herself because her mother was painting. She and her siblings have been taking care of themselves from day one because their parents can't be able to.

Broken Promises make a big impact on children and their future mentality. The quote I chose was about the first broken promise Rex did to Jennette. Jeannette has asked him to be sober for her birthday present and he couldn't last for almost two weeks. That is when Jeannette realized that her father can't keep promises as he says. She then started questioning about the glass castle. Rex made them go back to nothing and won't help them get the cash again. The quote on page 267, “I graduated from Barnard that Spring” is an example of  Chaos and Order. Chaos and order play how not everything is in place but there is also justice and rightness.That even through everything that they have been through they still are able to be successful. They were focused to be what they wanted to do even with their crazy parents. Lori was able to get out with the help of Jeannette and then brought her and raised her for a while until she was ready to leave. Coming of Age and Identity plays a big role in people's life because that is when they realize they have matured or have had an impactful experience that shows them their identity. Just like Jeannette in the quote, she realized what her life was like That scene had her mature, and after that, her eyes opened to how her parents are and what type of people they are. No matter how much they tell them how they are living is not ok, they rather choose the "exciting" life. The quote on Page 277, “Your father is who he is” Mom said “It’s a little late in the game to try to reform him now. Humor the man.”, is an example of acceptance. Acceptance plays into how accepting people can be through the negative event. Shows that even Rose Mary knows that their father can never fix himself. They all have accepted that he is dying and can't do anything to change himself. Jeannette Walls accept how her parents are ever since she made it to New York. The reality hit her and she realized that her parents aren't the same to her as they were to her when she was little.

On page 279 the quote, " ''Hey” he said. He winked and pointed his fingers at me. “Have I ever let you down?” He started chuckling because he knew there was only one way I could ever answer that question. I just smiled. And then I closed the door. “ this shows a sign of forgiveness. Forgiveness plays a big role in your childhood and adulthood. It helps mentally forget about all the impactful things that happen in your life. Although, Jennette doesn't say directly that she forgives her dad. They knew that she loved her dad the most and he loved her just as much. They were very close to each other and he would always ask her when he knew something was wrong to reassure her that their bond was close.
