         <description><![CDATA[<div>President Andrew Jackson promoted this federal law. Congress passed the law in 1830. Congress wanted more land in the Southeast to be available to white settlers, the law required Native Americans living east of the Mississippi River to move west of it. The Native Americans were paid for this land, but they didn't have the choice to stay in that region. <br><br>The Indian Removal Act angered the Indian tribes.</div>]]></description>
