I think a picture helps a lot if it is properly related, and a video of the speaking helps for sure. Seeing the person speaking helps with comprehension since humans don’t acquire a context just by the words but from body language and facial expressions and just seeing rhe mouth movements too

If the vocabulary is unfamiliar to test takers, listening activities can become significantly more challenging. Even if the accent is different or the speech is very fast, it is still possible to understand some parts. However, if key vocabulary is unknown, comprehension becomes nearly impossible.

Yes because not everyone speaks in British or US accent, back in my time in another country there were some people who were speaking in a very thick accent, it was not impossible for me to understand because I already listened to lots of different accents but I can see this causing very problematic situations for who people who only saw native English speakers in their life. Including different accents will definitely help the student when it comes to achieving true competency in the language.

I think yes becuase listening tests should feature different accents, especially for general tests like IELTS or TOEFL, since English varies globally. For specific contexts, though, focusing on one accent might be enough. Beginners should start with clear accents and add variety later maybe.

I think yes, because in real life we don’t just listen, we also respond, write, or engage in conversations. Integrated tasks show if someone actually understands what they hear. But independent listening tests are still useful for focusing on specific skills without more pressure
