Barriers Between Teacher & Parent

I know there are always some learning curves when it comes to a parent-teacher relationship. Just know that, bottom line, your child's teacher wants the best for them. It is hard to let go of your child and have trust in a teacher but know that they have vast experience and knowledge with how to overcome any struggles. Barriers aren't only physical, they are emotional as well. The best thing to remember is that both you and the teacher have different concerns with one another and the best possible way to overcome them is through open communication.

There are many ways to be involved in you child's development while at home. If you are helping to build their knowledge while at home, it can make a huge impact on their progress within the classroom.
One task that I recommend to parents to help with reading is to have your child tell you a story. Make them go into detail and help them find the right words to use. Explain each new word to them. If you teach them a new word, revisit that new word in a few days to refresh their memory. This not only helps them with being able to read more fluently but also helps their ability to write.

Tasks to Help With Math in The Home

Math in Kindergarten is heavily based around counting and learning new shapes. One way to help your child retain their knowledge is to use everyday objects. When you go out in public have your child point out the different shapes they see. A pizza is a triangle, a box is a rectangle, the ball is a circle, etc. If they see multiples of one shape, have them count how many they see. This helps in both aspects of the math that your child is learning. It also helps them to connect shapes and counting into real life objects.
