- Focus on details as opposed to entire scenes, trying to emulate the feeling of fleeting memory and unclear significance of subject matter on my identity .Details such as traces of life ,graffiti, marks in the grass from walking the same path mementos stuff etc etc 

-Collect some found sounds along the way to add to board for some inspiration for final , examples could be sea,waves crashing,bus stop sounds + chatter, seagulls etc et

I focused mainly on keeping a neutral colour palette, greys, browns , washed out blues. I knew how different each location sometimes was to another so I thought I'd keep some consistency through a distinct colour scheme, one that reflects the town as a whole. I plan to take a couple of the photographs into the darkroom and play around with acetate overlay prints. I'd also like to manipulate the film strip perhaps using alchol or fire. Something that wears down the emulsion in a way that lightens or manipulates the subject matter to portray time's effect on memories.

This week I've been looking to literary sources for inspiration. Identity and memory are two topics which are common areas of interest across many different fields from philosophy to fine art. There being such a wide range of material available I decided to begin by using ‘selfie’ by will storr as a starting point. It's a condensed history of the self and human behaviour, it touches on the sociological, evolutionary and economical elements that factor into the making of who we are. After I read through I felt ,similar to in selfie, it would make the most sense to order my research chronologically the start being childhood and individual upbringing. Whilst looking for artists focused on this period of time i was reminded of tracy emin's photo album series, a simple idea with a minimalistic format collaged into a personalised map of her past. 

This week ive  I planned to take a trip to Margate to visit Emin's neon sign she gifted. Margate being a place I spent a lot of my childhood I found some more inspiration upon my visit. I myself have lots of memories growing up  on its beaches and in its seafront cafes. It made me begin to think about how I could use my personal experience as a resource to put my findings to the test. Looking at how my environment and experiences have influenced who I am today. This inspired me to begin to note down and photograph details of my hometown to compile into a moodboard to use as inspiration for my first shoot. This week ive come across artist stephen gill, i was intrigued by his style of photo manipulation as well as the documentary element of his work im going to be including similar kinds of approaches in my upcoming experiments. 

This week i was introduced to a photo printing technique called ink transfer, Using acetone on a printed photograph you can transfer the ink onto different medias. I want to experiment with this after my upcoming shoot, this weeks shoot is centred around my hometown and the places and details which are to me significant. Taking inspiration from photographer stephen gill im looking to emulate a similar neutral soft toned colour palette, this also i feel matches the nostalgic fel im going for.

This week ive experimented with collages, combining ink transfer with textile elements. I did a small test shoot with one of the interviewees and produced two shameless using the shots and her response. Next i want to try the collages on different medias like, card and china i think the results could be interesting to see. Ive also come across artist katerine de blauwer, shes a collage artist who uses found imagery from old magazines to create collages with narratives, her style is minimalistic and her colour palette is mainly muted tones. Im going to be taking inspiration from de blauwer in my upcoming collages.

This week ive began planning my next shoot, using the material from the interviews im going to be creating a shoot in response to the interviewees answers. Its going to be shot in ramsgate, focusing on the smaller details which are significant to the interviewee. For this shoot im going to be testing out using a manual film camera for the first time, i want to experiment with the double exposure technique. Im going to be location scouting at the end of this week around the town.

Having done the shoot this week ive been editing the series of images, it being my first time using a manual camera some of the photographs came out heavily underexposed so im in the process of mending those. Im pleased with the outcome and am brainstorming some experiments to do later in the week, id like to develop the collages i did last week as i feel theres lots of room for experimentation with mixed media collages. Perhaps ill try some darkroom acetate prints as i remeber really enjoying the outcomes in my lens based rotation earlier this year.

Recently ive started working as an assistant for an artist, her work is mainly in the form of lightboxes and its centered around significant historical figures. Its inspired me to consider creating my own lightbox for my final piece but instead of illuminating just one image having a collage. In the lead up to the final weeks ive been researching locations for my final shoot, dover was one of the first that came to mind. I was having a conversation with a friend and she reminded me of how many memories are in the cliffs and rockpools of dover it made me think of visiting to see if it would be suited for a shoot. 

This week ive been compiling inspiration for my final shoot, ive found lots of editiorial photography in natural setting quite inspiring i love the contrast of the subjects and the landscapes where the wardrobe almost clashes with the surroundings. Also ive come across collaged black and white darkroom prints which i really liked and want ot create something similar for my lightbox, a high contrast image with lots of small details i think would work really nicely being illuminated. Im planning to do the shoot this sunday on the cliffs of dover with a previous interviewee ,focusing on her identity and experience growing up in dover.

Having completed the shoot ive made a few different experiments to test out which would be best suited to the lightbox. Firstly i tried out photo manipulation using fire, i burnt sections of the images and collaged them in the photo scanner ,i was pleased witht he end results but felt i could develop this idea further. I then tried out darkroom printing, i printed the burnt imagery onto acetate and created a series of collages using the light sensitive paper, i put a few of these onto photo shop and played around with the colouring. I really liked the outcome of the darkroom prints however because the paper i used was rather small to enlarge them onto the size of the lightbox th quality wouldntve been very good so ive decided to use one of the earlier collages and have the darkroom experiments hanging up beside th lightbox as prints. I sourced the lightbox from my boss and spray painted it black, i printed the collage at the print bureau and glued onto the final piece.
