By oversimplifying the complexity of this issue, she appeals to the logic and emotion of her largely conservative, right wing audiences. Essentially, Hopkins is offensive in her description of refugees, painting them as ‘feral’ humans to provoke one audience and appeal o another. Further, the conservative audiences more likely to agree with her ideology and perspective whilst the more liberal left wing party is provoked and angered by her insensitive and misinformed approach.

One opinion column that challenges the issue of immigration and refugees entering the U.K illegally is a piece by Katie Hopkins. In this text, Hopkin’s challenges the traditional view of immigrants as victims, and instead poses that the true negative implications of this geopolitical issue fall in the U.K. In this way, through her use of authorial choices such as her inflammatory tone and divisive persuasive rhetoric, Hopkin’s expresses her immense contempt for refugees and their subsequent effects on her society.
