Making sure the team knows:

-Assessing the students prior knowledge by a provocation and pre-assessment (anecdotal or formal)

-Discussing a possible exciting provocation with communicating with light and sound

-Done through a STEM activity as a provocation, video + group discussions, exploring light and sound instruments/objects

Finding Out:

-Where do I need to go and what do I need to do?

-Exploring different ways different people communicate , starting to research and dive deep into acquiring new information associated with the unit

We will give the team the terminology and definitions of the inquiry cycle. They will sort/ match the terms with the definitions. Then we will explore the upcoming units next project and label what part of the inquiry cycle the students will be during each phase of the project.

How do things move? Conducting a lesson with team members for understanding the Inquiry Cycle.

We will go through our next unit as a short lesson and use the inquiry cycle process to review and plan the lesson. Each stage will be a short activity and then teachers have to match the stage to a part of the cycle and finally define what each stage is and how we can use it going forward.

Activity 1:Teachers will research a given topic and working in a small group they will move through the inquiry cycle identifying each step

Activity 2: Teachers will sort scenarios and questions into each category of the inquiry cycle.

They will feed back to the team and we will discuss how this can be implemented effectively in our upcoming units of study.

Tasks:

Introduce the 6 phases of the IC and unpack what each phase is.
Using the Economics unit, brainstorm the essential understandings for each phase of the inquiry cycle.
Evaluate whether the EQ/GQ align with the unit's Know/Do/Understand
Team Commitments: What are we committed to as a grade level on actions we will take to drive the inquiry cycle forward?

Materials:

A4 posters with each phase of the cycle
sticky notes
pens/markers
Essential Questions and Guiding Questions for the unit

Create a matching game to make connections between the solution fluency and the inquiry cycle. Then, share the 'Phases of the Inquiry Cycle' document to check their answers and then watch the video.

After the matching activity, we will share the video and explore ideas of how to role it out with the kids.
