Collective Worship Reflection – Compassion | Special Gifts

This week in Collective Worship we learned about Ellie Goldstein, a 23-year-old model from Ilford, who has just been announced as a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing. Ellie is the first person with Down’s syndrome to take part in a full series of the show and she has already made history as the first model with Down’s syndrome to appear on the cover of British Vogue.

We linked Ellie’s story to the Bible’s picture of the Church as a body. Just as our hands, feet and eyes each play an important role, Christians believe that every person has been given unique gifts from God. When we use these gifts together, we can support one another and share God’s love with the world. In Collective Worship we reflected on how important it is to value and celebrate one another’s differences and to show compassion as we recognise and appreciate the special talents each person brings.

It has certainly been another busy week here in school, rounding off what has already been a full and exciting half term. Our DT week has kicked off in some year groups, with children diving into creative projects that showcase their skills, imagination and problem-solving. Other year groups will be starting their DT focus next week and I am really looking forward to seeing the variety of designs and finished products that will emerge.

Year 3 had a fantastic trip out to Wigan Athletic Stadium on Wednesday, where they thoroughly enjoyed exploring behind the scenes and learning more about the club. On Thursday, members of Year 6 proudly represented our school at the Healthy Schools Celebration event at The Edge in Wigan – a wonderful opportunity for them to share ideas and celebrate achievements with others.

The energy and enthusiasm around school has been wonderful to see and I am so proud of how hard the children (and staff!) have worked this half term. With just one more week to go until a well-deserved half term break, I know the whole school community will be looking forward to a chance to recharge and reflect on all we have achieved so far.

The highlight for many was getting to hold up the cup, try on some of the team jerseys and experience what it’s like to be part of the team! Their faces when they came back and told Mr Robinson and Miss Taylor all about their day were an absolute picture 😍 - they simply couldn’t wait to share their stories.

It’s already shaping up to be a fun-filled and inspiring morning, with fantastic showcases from schools across the borough, all sharing their ideas and achievements around health and wellbeing. There's also a wealth of information and activities for the children to explore.
