Technology Integration Programs at the higher education level.

In the past two decades the role that technology plays in our lives has drastically changed and increased. This has resulted in efforts or programs within academic institutions to actively increase technology use through connecting technology with curriculum. While younger generations certainly are attracted to technology and adapt well to using it, there is significant data that suggests that many of these massive(and expensive) efforts towards technology implementation and incorporation have done much less to help students learn than architects originally hoped.

Now as we are about to enter the third decade of this milenia and technology has become more accessible and affordable, many developing countries and education systems are looking to incorporate technology into their curriculums, and education systems. It is my hope through this study to assess the true value of technology integration and incorporation into higher education systems in order to create a series of guidelines that can be followed. While differences between local contexts and cultures will warrant caution to developing countries and education systems as they seek council from the experiences and efforts of more developed nations, it is my hope that these guidelines will help to streamline and make the process of technology implementation more efficient and beneficial to all parties involved.

Research for this study will be primarily qualitative because it will require the opinions, observations, and stories of students, professionals, and educators that have been involved with or experienced technology implementation efforts at the higher education level. There will be some quantitative research in regards to tracking students academic performance or through survey questions of the quantitative nature, but the main focus of research will be through the experiences of the above mentioned parties and my own analysis of the technology implementation programs in the context of the literature reviewed prior to conducting this research.
