The way the students stay engaged is all personal to them. Every student has their own way of learning and everyone has a different way of learning their best. To fulfill engagement it is important to recruit interest. To help keep engagement the instructor should change how the students learn as they develop their learning styles and develop new interests. The second checkpoint to fulfilling engagement is to sustain effort and persistence. As an educator, you want to help keep the students motivated. Set individual goals for students and help them build skills in self-regulation and determination. The third checkpoint that helps with engagement is self-regulation. Creating an environment where everyone in motivated and provided with everything they may need to support them is important. Using multiple representations in the classroom helps students to make connections within concepts. It is also important that we give the students option of representation. The first Guideline is perception. Make the most important information stand out to your students and present them multiple times through multiple approaches. The next guideline is language and symbols. Using vocabulary in the classroom and using symbols may help the students better understand and comprehend the information. Using different pictures, graphs, symbols, and words in multiple ways can help the students better understand concepts one way or another. The last guideline of representation is comprehension. comprehension is the students taking in and understanding their concepts. It is important to contain usable knowledge that can be assessable to students that can help with decision-making. It is important to incorporate categorization and active memorization skills into the classroom. It is important to recognize and incorporate different ways students can express themselves through strategy, practice, and organization. The first guideline is physical action. many things in the classroom can be limited which can cause barriers for students. In having a diverse classroom it is important for educators to include all materials that everyone is able to use. including the physical attributes that can attend to everyone's needs will allow students to navigate easily with no limits. Another guideline is expression and communication. There are many ways students use to communicate and some may struggle with one way or another. Therefore it is important to include alternative ways to communicate and express their knowledge in ways that help them be the most successful. In doing this it will help the students express knowledge, and have the ability to come up with new ideas and concepts making it a positive and well-rounded environment. The last guideline for the means of action and expression is executive functions. Using this in the classroom the students will be able to adapt to the learning environment quickly and easily. The students can set long-term goals, along with strategies for reaching their goals. It is important to expand executive capacity by changing the level of skills to help processing and comprehension, bringing executive skills and strategies.
