Violet's childhood is filled with pain. She attributes her success to a lot of effort and sacrifices she exhibited before she had children. However, now that she has a better life, a positive response would be to show gratitude for the departure from her abusive lifestyle. Instead, she expresses disappointment in her children. The lack of gratitude shows the mental state that she is in and the negative perspectives she is plagued with about her own life.

The video describes loneliness as a mental state. Many of the metaphorical descriptions used in the video match the setting of Violet's closed curtain home. Although Violet is surrounded by her family, she feels desperately lonely. Loneliness has now become a characteristic of her narrative in her own mind. Being that her mind is in this survival state, she pushes people away in order to further the lonely anarrative of herself in her own mind.

When portraying Violet, Meryl Streep delivers a very confusing performance. On one hand, Meryl Streep portrays Violet as incoherent and not all there at times. On the other hand, she shows Violet's witty, intelligent personality. This polarizing performance leaves the audience in a gray area. Although, Violet's mind can be in a different dimension in some scenes her witty scenes shows that she is not stuck in psychosis. However, any credibility that is established in her triumphantly witty scenes is discredited by her low points. This performance by Meryl Streep conveys a sense of uneasiness because the audience doesn't know which Violet they are going to get next. The ups and downs of this personality give insight into Violet's mentality as she is probably not sure what is going with her. Meryl Streep's performance commands the audience in each scene and leaves the audience just as confused as Violet's family. Meryl Streep's performance is outstanding because it immerses the audience almost as if they are one of the characters themselves.

At the beginning of the play, Beverly claimed that he had a contractual relationship with Violet. However, we later learned that the pain the two shared in childhood was an important way the two could connect intimately. Yet, when the contract was fulfilled it left Violet in a wreck. Beverly's death was not just contractual and Meryl Streep's portrayal allowed the reader to question if Violet truly meant all the cold things she would say. Violet is now left with her pills and cold humorous personality to cope with the loss of this "contractual" intimate relationship.

At the end of the play, we find out that Violet found a suicidal note and didn't do anything because she was under the influence of pills. Living with her actions the lockbox is Violet's proof to herself that she is indifferent to Beverly's death and yet she desperately tries to push her guilt onto her daughter Barbara. It is important to see the vulnerability of Violet in this scene. She is not a psychopath incapable of empathy or guilt. Although the act of blaming your daughter is despicable, Violet's human qualities still shine through and show that she is not a monster.

It is worth noting that the traits that constitute a person filled with hurt are numerous. These traits build up over time and become increasingly complex. When faced with a person like this, it is careless to psychoanalyze moments of a character without understanding the full picture. Especially if the person in question doesn't understand it himself. The design of this padlet is to show the increasing complexities of the human mind. When it is hard to understand a person's motive behind their actions it is more supportive to not arrive at a certain conclusion that they are a monster first and then try and linearly piece facts together in order to support that conclusion. That is why this padlet is designed as a web rather than a linear connection of thoughts.
