Whether you pick randomly or go with a region or troop profile that's close to your heart, the cookies will be just as tasty and the funds will go towards making outings, community service projects, and other programming possible. A few boxes of Thin Mints in your freezer = helping them get closer to those sales targets! Troops are affiliated with shelters or in / very close to ZIP codes or towns with low household incomes, a high proportion of kids in the local schools being eligible for free/reduced lunches, and a "Distressed Communities Index Report" by EIP. It was a bit challenging to find troops that could likely use a boost because of the scarcity of Girl Scout troops in many lower-income areas & an incomplete-seeming troop-finding database (and not every troop offering an online purchase option). I did my best in the time I had (cookie season is waning!) but I know there's lots of room for improvement.
