         <description><![CDATA[<p>Mexico was under Spanish control before the War. Miguel Hidalgo made a small army and they marched the capital where they defeated the Spanish Army. He then retreated which gave the Spanish army an opportunity to regroup and strike back. Jose Maria Morelos took control of the revolution after that and conquered multiple states. In 1813 Mexico declared independence. Guerrero and Iturbide made the Plan of Iguala which guaranteed Mexico would be independent and Catholic</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Mexican struggle for Independence began with the "Grito de Dolores" or the "Cry of Dolores". Miguel Hidalgo uttered the country's cry for independence and his cry set in motion the Mexican fight for independence. Jose Maria Morelos and Agustin Iturbide continued the struggle for independence after Miguel Hidalgo was executed. In 1821, Iturbide and the rebel leader Vicente Guerrero made the "Plan of Iguala". This proclaimed Mexico's independence from Spain.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>First Italian war of independence failed. Victor Emmanuel II was the new king of Sardinia and he would lead the unification movement but he needed allies. Victor Emmanuel II attacked Austria in April of 1858 which was the second war of Italian Independence. Giuseppe Garibaldi led an attack through Sicily and arrived at Naples. Garibaldi handed over his Southern conquest to Victor Emmanuel II and the Kingdom of Italy was proclaimed in 1861. </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>After the Congress of Vienna, the Italian peninsula was still divided and the largest region was the "Kingdom of Two Sicilies". This region was under Spanish and Austrian control before achieving it's independence. The Kingdom of Sardinia was under Spanish and French control and the new Prime Minister, Count Cavour, wanted to unify all of Italy so he partnered with France and fought Austria which brought more land. Giuseppe Garibaldi captured the island of Sicily and agreed to unite with Piedmont-Sardinia. They agreed to hand over their power to Victor Emmanuel II and Italy was United.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>As the Napoleonic wars progressed German speakers began to feel unity and teamed up with Prussia to take down France. The calls for unification and liberal reforms caused the revolutions of 1848 which spread across Germany. The Frankfurt assembly discussed how Germany should be united. In 1861 King Wilhelm I became King of Prussia and he Appointed Bismarck as his chancellor. Bismarck was able to provoke the French to declare war first in 1871 which  gave him the support of the independent German states. Germany won the war and Wilhelm I became the Emperor of Germany.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>There were over 30 German states that had an alliance called the "German Confederation" and Austria dominated it, however Prussia took lead in the unification of Germany. In 1862 King Wilhelm I appointed OVB (Otto Von Bismarck) to be his prime minister. OVB made a political policy called "Realpolitik" which meant he was wiling to do whatever it took to achieve his goals. Bismarck started a war with Austria known as the Seven Weeks War that brought Prussia more territory. That war was the final piece to unifying Germany.</p>]]></description>
