         <description><![CDATA[<p>The discussions about time scales and the land ocean continuum are interconnected. The timescales and spatial scales become smaller, the closer you get to the shore. This naturally leads to the suggestion that we need geostationary satellites globally, capable of monitoring diurnal variations (observations at hourly time scales).</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>We know that extreme events have a disproportionate impact on C fluxes (one single extreme-storm event can contribute more than half of the annual POC flux exported from a coastal system). We need to consider what observing capabilities/frameworks are needed to best capture and improve estimates of these C fluxes. Especially as the severity and frequency of extreme events are expected to change significantly with climate change. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>]]></description>
