Project based learning is different from students doing projects because students traditional projects begin with the teacher assigning and outlining all aspects of the project as opposed to the teachers introducing a direction and seeing where the students take it. In PBL teacher is guider/facilitator rather than director. Students have choice in process and product.

(Requires self-reflection/global reflection, activates informational writing skills, requires organization of text, requires adjustment of lexile levels and appropriate word choice for audience).

2. Eighth graders submit or Skype questions to real-live juniors, who respond to questions. (Develops public speaking competencies, requires identification of audience, addresses authentic problem of lack of preparation for 8th graders, provides socio-emotional support and connections between students, fosters competence in video-conferencing technologies).

3.
