Your Name: Marisol Diaz

Class Period: 5

Social theory : Social Hierarchy based on skin color results in colorism which leads to the discrimination of people based on the color of their skin.

Explanation of theory (why are you taking this position? Why do you see the world this way):

I realized this idea because my parents made me think about this theory. My parents prohibit me from talking to black people or getting close to them because they’re “dangerous”. My parents think this way because they have experiences with black people and some friends have too. Social Hierarchy is a society's categorization of people based on what they value the most and the least. In America, we have many forms of social hierarchies, the most common one is a hierarchy based on skin color. America’s social hierarchy of skin color values white people at the top and African americans at the bottom. This causes discrimination amongst the people because we are being taught to value people based on this structure.

According to the article titled " Dylann Roof Jury: Penalty for Charleston church shooter" posted on Tuesday January 10, 2017 created by Khusbuh Shah and Ellott C. states that dylann entered Charleston and killed 9 men. He was planning this days before the shooting happened. He states that somebody either had to get rid of black people because "black people are killing white people everyday." This connects to my social theory because their viewing black people as bad without knowing who they are.

My parents are tying the action to the person and that's not right because many races can do the same actions and they are putting those actions only on black people. They prohibit me from talking or getting close to black people because there "dangerous". They think this way because they have had bad experiences with black people. They view them as criminals, robbers, an bad people.

I chose changes from Tupac because this hip song makes reference to the treatment of black people by police and it connects to my theory because they view blacks as bad people. What stood out to me from the song is " Cops give a damn about a negro, pull a trigger kill a nigga hes a hero" This stood out to me because polices don't care about black people and really will shoot them for no reason.
