         <description><![CDATA[<div>There is only one grocery store in the city of East Boston, which qualifies it as one of the two food deserts in the Boston area. More than half of East Boston includes regions where there is not a grocery store within half a mile.          <description><![CDATA[<div>In East Boston, 63% of adults report being overweight or obese, 22% reporting HTN, and 10% reporting asthma. East Boston has the highest prevalence for heart disease out of other communities in Boston. It has the 5th highest prevalence for obesity compared to other neighborhoods in Boston.&nbsp;</div><div><br>The Active Adults program provides opportunities for adults 55 and older to stay healthy, active, and happy.          <description><![CDATA[<div>The mortality rates for cancer and heart disease are higher in East Boston than in Massachusetts. Cancer is the leading cause of death in the Latino community of Boston, with heart disease being second. Diabetes is the 4th leading cause, which is prevalent in the Latino Community.&nbsp;<br><br>Attached is a resource in Spanish, with tips for improving one's overall health. There are tips for getting active, eating a healthy diet, and building healthy habits.          <title>English to Spanish Medical Dictionary</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>According to a report in 2017, many of East Boston’s residents are foreign born, immigrating from El Salvador, Colombia, Guatemala, Brazil, and Dominican Republic. Out of all of Boston’s neighborhoods, East Boston has the highest percentage of people who speak a language other than English. In order to provide the best quality care to those in East Boston, it is necessary to have successful communication.&nbsp;<br><br>Attached is a resource for translating medical terminology from English to Spanish and vice versa.          <title>Free After-School Teen Program</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>East Boston has the highest percentage of population under 25 with less than a high school diploma. As of 2021, East Boston High School’s graduation rate has risen to 80%. Only 42% of the population has achieved a high school diploma and few surpass that level of education due to the high costs of university.<br><br>The Thriving Teens program provides free after-school activities and care for East Boston youth ages 14 to 19.&nbsp; The program helps to improve attitudes toward school, increase academic achievement, and expose youth to different career pathways.
