Stop Light Assessment

The stop light assessment helps the teacher determine which students understand the concept and the students that do not. After teaching a new skill and allowing them to perform an independent assessment. Students can either hold up the green card that says "Easy! I get it! I can do this by myself! which is the ok to continue with the lesson. The yellow card "Okay. I need a little more help" which is the sign to reteach skills or provide additional assistance to those who are struggling. "Hard, I still need a lot of help" is the card that indicates that students are not grasping the skill that was taught and it needs to either be retaught or those particular students should be pulled for additional assistance. I like this stop light assessment system because it is quick and easy when teaching and it helps guide students while they are learning.

First to Five Check

Students can use their hand to tell you how much they understand. The first to five check is used by students holding up a fist to show they don't understand at all. One finger shows I need help. Two fingers show I could use more practice. Three fingers show I understand pretty well. Four fingers show I really understand. Five fingers show I absolutely understand. This is a great assessment because it gets students engaged and allows the teacher to quickly assess and determines his her next step in the lesson.

This particular assessment is used for students to write a sentence or one word answers to sum up something they learned that day, or it can be used for students to attach an answer to a question that was asked. I really like this assessment because it allows the teacher to really see which students fully grasped the material taught that day, Instead of looking at the whole class perspective it allows you to distinguish which students understand the concept from those who do not.

Polls and Survey

I like the polls and survey assessment because it is fun and the teacher receives immediate results. It also integrates technology allowing the students to actively engage more. The polls and survey is used by asking students a simple question following a response. After they click submit. The teacher is able to see which students knows the material and how much they know the material. I like that this particular assessment because it gives the teacher and student flexibility in asking and answering the question in depth or just multiple choice.

Four Corners

This is an interactive fun assessment for students. There are corners that are labeled with an answer to a question. Students will be asked a question and they are to walk to the corner with the correct answer. The students who walked to the correct corner wins. I think this is a competitive game and it will motivate students to pay attention and listen so that they can win. This particular assessment is not the quickest but it shows the teacher which students know and which students do not. I also think this is a great assessment for kinesthetic learners because it requires movement around the classroom.

Let's Build a flower

This particular assessment is creative in the form of art. The bud is the question. Each student will be given a petal. Students will write their answer on the petal and stick it around the bud. Teachers are able to review the answers to determine what may need to be retaught.

Connect The Puzzle

Connect the puzzle consists of puzzle pieces with questions and answers on each piece. Students are to connect the puzzle by connecting the proper question with the answer. Students can perform this assessment in groups or individually.

Fish Bowl

Strips of paper are placed in a fish bowl. Students will pull from the bowl, read the question aloud, and answer it orally. I like this assessment because it is quick and effective. Teachers are able to correct or extend on the response the students give. This can clear any confusion other students may have about any questions pulled from the bowl.

The greatest way students learn is when they demonstrate or teach the skill they learned themselves. After a lesson, I would call students by groups to talk about what we learned to the class. I will also teach the class to take notes. This way teachers can measure how much students understand a concept.

Clickers is a way to activel engage students with technology when teaching. A question will appear on the screen along with multiple choice answers. Students are to click on which answer they think is correct. I like this way of assessing because you receive an immediate response and it allows the teacher to review questions with the class.
