1. Stevenson felt the way he did with the story from W.E.B. Du Bois because he himself had dealt with that feeling of having the weight of the world on him because he was the only one in his family to go and finish college at Harvard Law.
2. Yes. When I was in middle school, before I moved, I was bullied for liking girls. This was 6th and 7th grade so kids at the time didn't really understand sexuality and sexual orientation , myself included; however, that did not excuse the torture and torment the other kids would inflict on me. I was bullied severely. Beaten, called names, girls would steal my clothes in gym, kids would spit at me in the hallway. I even had a kid pull a knife on me once. The hope in that situation was when I moved to a much more accepting community and realized that I was never the problem and that I was perfectly fine being myself.

1. I think Stevenson felt some pressure from himself and his community by being the hero or the guy to make it and go to college. Also He felt even more pressure with this case because he knows that Walter isn't guilty and a good man with a loving family.
2. No I truly don't feel like I personally have felt helpless in a real serious way. Obviously sometimes things pile up and feel overwhelming but at the end of the day it isn't serious and can be resolved.

1. I think Stevenson feels like he has a big weight on his shoulders being the first in his family to go to college. Along with taking this case he knows he cant fail for Walter and Walter's family.
2. I've never felt to the point of hopeless but i have had my share of the system going against me and bullying and mental torture and manipulation from others making me look the fool and the fall guy. I don't know how we can change it but it starts with people and how we can change their perspective
