The Big Bang Theory was introduced in the year 1927 by an astronomer, Georges Lemître. The Big Bang Theory is the idea that our universe began at only a single point. Astronomers, like Georges Lemître, believe that over the years it has stretched and expanded and will continue to.

In the 20th century people thought the universe was static, which means it stays the same size. Then in 1924, Edwin Hubble used a technique to measure distances to different objects in the sky. To measure the speeds and distance of these objects from the Earth, Hubble used spectroscopic red-shift data. By doing this, Hubble realized that the distance of objects depends on how fast they are moving away from Earth.

One key piece of evidence is that the universe is expanding. You see, the galaxy, stars, and all other objects are not growing in size. The size of these things is being controlled by the fundamental forces which hold the atoms and sub-atomic particles together.

Another piece of evidence is cosmic background radiation, also known as CWBR. The Big Bang Theory suggested that the universe was very hot and dense and as it would grow it would cool. Cosmologists calculated the theoretical temperature of our universe today and then searched for the evidence. This was discovered by accident in 1964 by Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson. The two had built an antenna in order to research radio signals. They began to believe that it was radio interference from NYC but quickly realized it was radiation from beyond the Milky Way. They had been observing leftover heat radiation from the Big Bang.

The WMAP Survey shows a very detailed temperature map of the sky. The different colors demonstrate little variations in the temperature of background radiation. These can show us where the different galaxies have begun. The red spots on the map indicate warmth and the blue spots indicate the cooler weather. The difference between warm and cold is only about 0.0002 of a degree. The pattern of this map is a lot similar to what astrophysicists believe it would be if the universe was dense to begin with and then grew throughout the years.
