    • The 1980s marked a very crucial time in the advancement of technology. Technology started becoming more user friendly and society started to become more dependent on it. Communication from a long distance became much more easier to accomplish. Listening to music through headphones and not carrying around a radio made it much easier to enjoy your favorite tune without disturbing others.

    Americans enjoyed many fundamental changes in their standard of living in the 1980s. One major transformation was the new, expanded role of television. CABLE TELEVISION, although available in the 1970s, became standard for most American households. This change ushered in a whole host of new programming. The 1980s had more vivid shows and also introduced some of the most popular shows today, such as the renown animated sitcom, The Simpsons (1989), which is still has new episodes airing to this day.

Arcade machines and consoles became very popular and people would spend hours and lots of money playing them. Hanging out at the arcade was like the 1980s version to the modern day LAN party. 1980s is sometimes referred as "The Golden Age of Arcade Games". Games started out very simple and the players objective was to get the highest score possible. In 1983 game consoles went dormant due to them lacking quality, but in 1985 came a huge game changer. Developed by Nintendo, Super Mario Bros was one of the biggest leaps forward in the video game industry. It was one of the most iconic games during the 1980s, and changed the format of video games forever. It set the common basis to what most games have today; a plot, protagonist, and antagonist. To this day the Mario franchise still remains very popular among gamers. Other iconic games were PAC-MAN, Q*bert, and the very renown arcade game Donkey Kong. This style of clothing became known as "Punk Fashion", and is some what reminiscent to today's clothing style. Women would commonly apply heavy make up and mini skirts were popular among them. Men would often wear track suits, polo shirts, v-neck shirts, and would frequently roll up their jeans to expose their slouched socks, which was common among both genders. When it came to hair, women would have a high or side pony tail worn with a headband, another common hairstyle was puffed out hair. When it came to men's hair, it tended to be shag and mullets were popular, especially for working-class men.
