Content Themes and Big Ideas by Jacob Abbuhl

Stories try to tell you something, they can convey an idea that students should take to heart, or provide some ideas that should be considered when students read the story. It should mean something to the students when they are reading a book, or reading a text for information. In this section, I am looking for students to take a look at the books that are featured in this module and think about what are the themes and the big ideas that present themselves in the books. It is important that students try to think about what messages that we can find in these books that could effect them. Some of the essential questions that I want students to keep in mind while they read their books is What happens in the book that brings the theme to light? How do the characters actions effect the big ideas that come from this story? How did the actions in the story play a role in the ideas or theme that is presented in the story?

I would like to share this video at the start of this module to help kids to understand what I am looking for a little more clearly. I feel that if they understand it they will be on the lookout for this in this part of the lesson.

Now he has to go to school for magic and learn about his own past, about what happened to his parents and what mystery is going on in the school. But what does it have to do with a dark wizard that has been dead for years? As a book that many people enjoy, I wanted to use this book to help engage students when they are thinking of a theme. The major theme that I want to convey with this book is the idea of courage.

In this book of her life, we see how things change for her as she goes from a regular girl to a refugee of the run for her life. This story is well known among many people and I felt that this would be a good book for an actual event that happened. Students should be able to see how real events create a story that should be told to others so as not to repeat tragedy. This book emphasizes the themes of courage and perseverance as this girl and her family tries to survive this horrible event.

When he arrives, he has to deal with the xenophobia that comes with living in this time period. Moon needs to adapt to the new life that he has in this country, and try to help his dad achieve his dream of flying. This story is a great one for talking about issues that our country had years ago and how many people did not tolerate each other as they should have. In fact, it sort of ties in it some issues that we have with our own time. I think that this book would be a great addition to help students see a number of different themes emerge from this book. A few of which I think we see are loyalty, perseverance, and cooperation.
