Think about the modern world. What do you see around you? Almost everything, from the device you are reading this on and the software that runs it, to the fibres of the clothes you are wearing and even the food you are eating: everything is available at least partly thanks to the work done by scientists, researchers, engineers and technicians.

Without enough of these people, the world just would not function as well as it does. Indeed, knowledge and skills in science, technology, engineering and maths disciplines are becoming essential to function in today's society and we have to aspire to deliver the best education possible in order to engage a whole new generation of scientists, researchers, engineers and technicians who will carry the economy on their shoulders.
Activity 1: Use the padlet below to answer the following questions:

Do you think there is a shortage of STEM skills in Europe?

If so, what is the main reason for that?

If not, why are employers finding it difficult to employ workers?

I think that there is a shortage of STEM skills (not only in Europe) because STEM changes so fast and studies in universities are not focusing on employers needs.
Activity 2:

Read Section 3 “Challenges and solutions to infusing career information into the science classroom” from the report presented in this section and, in the padlet below, name which of those challenges are encountered most often by teachers in your school.

I am teaching in a kindergarten and STEM career awareness is not developing.
1.4 Bibliography

Caprile, M., Palmen, R., Sanz, P. & Dente, G.
