Laurie Halse Anderson, author of Speak, talks about her experiences with censorship. Speak, one of the most challenged books from 2000-2009, tells the story of Melinda, who was raped at a party just before beginning her freshman year of high school. It is frequently challenged on the basis of its sexual content.

For banned books week, I wanted to draw an illustration inspired by the children's book "Prince & Knight" by Daniel Haack. It stuck out to me as a book that was so sweet, innocent, and wholesome, yet it is banned in many places due to the fact that the prince falls in love with the knight. What a silly and nonsensical reason to ban a book! I hope that everyone who sees this gives the book a chance, even if it is for children.

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie was one of my favorite books to read growing up. It sparked my interest in reading. This book talked about the topics that people were going through but were never discussed. These exact topics were the reason this book was banned . This book talked about this issues that people were going through and gave them hope. The quote from Caelyn Pender describes perfectly why this book is important for those coming of age.
