I find that I really like to dig for information through internet searches of relevant databases, but I may not adequately collect and share that information. I can sift through an article fairly quickly to determine its veracity and its usefulness to me at the moment, but perhaps in my haste, I oversimplify some conclusions. I'm not really sure how to make use of a PLE. I don't really like sharing personal information, and find the whole facebook, instagram culture wholly mystifying.

I need to be more organized with my collection methods. My files, both computer and paper, are all over the place. I also need to connect and share more with real people outside of music making. I know sleeping is a weird way of reflecting - I problem solve and work on music in my sleep. It will be playing so loudly it wakes me up.

I enjoyed this exercise. After looking at the rest of the cohorts' PLEs I look forward to revisiting and refining mine in the days to come.

I see a number of areas that I can focus on improving. I would like to find more ways to reflect, and new ways to collect and organize all types of data.

I would like to work on sharing, as well. Like Greg, I like my privacy and don't tend to share much personal information online. However, I realize there is a need to be "visibile" for my students (particularly in online sections) and, as such, I would also like to work on ways to boost visibility without compromising my own desire for privacy.

Well, that was a fun assignment.

Prior to this I have never really been exposed to the concept of a Personal Learning Environment. I certainly have never give much thought to my own.

After breaking out my sweet lay-flat journal and brilliantly colored pens, I mapped out my PLE. I learned that I connect with things largely in a professional setting (conferences, publications, peer groups, and trainings) more so than social media or "traditional" news outlets. The news I do get is primarily online, and through an outlet that I view less slanted than Fox or CNN - the Daily Mail. I tend to collect things via notes/written word and in a variety of documents and files stored electronically.

Writing (whether it be drafts of formal policy or notes scratched out on random pieces of paper) seem to be my preferred form of reflection, although I also pontificate on things when doing yardwork or laying in bed after my 2 am trip to the potty.

Keeping with my tendency to write things down, that seems to be how I share as well. Due to different schedules (shiftwork, etc.) a good portion of my job is via email. The sharing can also be done via formal policies and procedures. While I prefer the written form, I also must conduct public presentations and speak at work sessions. (it still helps me to have the presentation written out though)

My learning style may be incompatible with academia. I learn by doing (and often making a lot of mistakes) as in creating online classroom. This teaching style is compatible to Indigenous ways of teaching. The student is ready to learn after making mistakes. I love teaching online. My PLE consists of first asking the questions. For example, I am asking the question - is it possible to teach the online Indigenous Knowledge course and other Indigenous courses from my village or nearby Tok University. First, I Connect - I ask other instructors who teach from satellite universities or home, google online teaching from village. I keep all my information in a folder on my laptop. I Reflect during my walks to an from school and I share at conferences,, paper, etc. , I like the circle paradigm to connect collect, reflect and share.

I started with listing tools and got increasingly abstract as I kept going. It's interesting how tools can feel like such game-changers, but in the end are still an ends-to-the-means for structuring our thoughts and fostering human connections.

I used Adobe Spark to make my graphic - I've been spending a little too much time playing around there recently. It makes me feel like a wannabe Instagram Influencer or something :)
