I personally felt that the story of Sabs Ongkiko inspires me to really go where there is a need for me in this world. Her story reminded me of the years I spent in a public school as a student from Grades 7-10 and mingling with more public school students across my home province. There are many, many holes and errors in the way a lot of systems are run in the public school system and it was there I understood the value of proper education and care for the students.

Ms. Ongkiko reminded me so much of the idealistic person in me. I wanted to do the same, provide a service back to the community after seeing firsthand how difficult it is without the help, generosity and care of others. Having received a relatively better educational setup as a science high school student, I was fortunate enough to have the resources and the capacity to fend for myself, stand for what is right in that school, and really push for better systems. That is what I was able to contribute then. That's where the world needed me then. Now, as someone who was awakened by the social involvement in that school and in the Ateneo from Senior high onwards, I can say that I find myself wanting to intersect with the world in where I can help bring justice to all our fellow citizens. But it also reminds me to also serve the underprivileged in an educational sense: to help them reach the same opportunities I had. That desire to be for the people was once more reawakened in me today, and I feel that I am on that path through my course and my future choices.

Ms. Sabs' story inspired me to break away from the fear of going out of my comfort zone. Oftentimes, when we are used to our daily routine, we do not want to do something unfamiliar or daunting to us. However, we have to realize that we were not living this life to serve only ourselves. In Galatians 5:13-18, God calls on us to fulfill His command of loving our neighbors as ourselves. In everything that we do and in every choice that we make, we have to think of our brothers and sisters as well, most especially those who need the most help.

The desire to be of service to others was reignited. In this time of uncertainty, it is easy to only think of how I (and the people closest to me) can survive both physically and mentally. However, there are so much more people who need assistance and those who have more privilege need to realize their duty to reach out to these individuals so that all of us may rise above the many challenges of life.

She really inspired me to choose the vocation where I can serve best or where I can contribute to the community the most. It reminded me that the profession or the title is not what is important but rather, it is what you do and the impact of your vocation. It inspired me to choose a vocation for a nobler cause rather than just for personal gains. This reminded me of our lesson in theology wherein, as children of God, we should do what is more loving for God, for our neighbors, and for ourselves.

I still want to go through the process of going through a masters so that I may be certified and be able to help others with their problems since I have really found a passion for listening to other people's problems. But at the same time I realize that just because my occupation may end up being different from what I was hoping for, this does not mean that I cannot still love and care for others wherever I am. I do not need to be a counselor to be a friend and listen to other peoples problems. So I guess irregardless of what my work will be like after College, I hope to be able to show love and care to those around me.

Sabs Ongkiko chose a vocation where she felt was best for her and used it to serve others. She went the extra mile by being great at what she does. What truly inspired me was her line that says,” Gamitin mo ang iyong talino at talento upsang i-angat ang ibang tao.” It inspired me because she devoted her life to a career that will benefit not only her but also the community around her as well. In doing so, she is able to touch other people’s lives and even inspire a lot of people too. As a college student, my future may seem so uncertain yet, from Sabs’ talk, I learned that we should also consider how we can give back to the community through service.

This pandemic has brought so much uncertainty in my life and others that I sometimes forget that a lot of people are suffering greater challenges than I. It’s easy to magnify our own inconveniences whilst looking away to the chaos around me. From Sabs’ talk, I realized that we should not only look at our own troubles but also to the troubles of our fellow brothers and sisters and do our best to help them.

Ms. Ongkiko inspired me to keep sharing all the love I have within me to the things I do and the people around me, no matter what. Doing so also enables me to keep embodying my calling with the utmost effort since everything done in and with love is undeniably more than enough. Another reason why her vocation sparked mine is that I have been working on my mantra and motive to spread nothing but all love. It can be difficult since it all comes down on how you choose to respond to people and situations. At the end of the day, all things are done by, in, and with love comes no regrets.

I was inspired by Ms. Sabs Ongkiko's courage. She gave up the opportunity to study medicine and become a doctor, which to other people may seem as a "brighter" future as compared to being a public school teacher. I'm pretty sure that some people have told her that she is "sayang" or that her decision was wrong, but she did not let that hinder her from pursuing what her heart truly desires which is to help people through education more than anything else. Personally, I don't think everyone is able to have the courage to do that.

I really saw how she felt so fulfilled in her profession and found myself also having that same desire to help in educating people and also feeling the same sense of fulfillment when I do so. I've always thought of being a teacher at one point in my life no matter what profession I end up getting into, and this video made that desire stronger. Tracing back, it is interesting to view how life has panned out given the choices I made over other choices, or the opportunities that I pursued over the opportunities that I did not take. What was truly moving in Ma'am Ongkiko's story is that she had the courage to pick the least obvious (given her external circumstances) but the most loving choice. Now, I truly hope I can do the same.

With this, I was led to see a new perspective where each choice I make, whether small or big, could lead to something greater. A friend once told me that growth is in the uncomfortable. This involves going out of my comfort zones to ultimately find what I am passionate about. Especially now, I recognize how important it is to love what we do, to choose the more loving option. It opened my eyes to see the possibilities for a different approach as to how I make decisions.

In reading John 6:1-15 and Ms. Ongkiko's story, I am reminded of the many different talent and gifts that God has given us to serve Him and others. Even if that talent seems small for others (like the little boy's seemingly insufficient bread and fish), we can still use it to help a lot of people in our own ways. Thus, my desire to give back and help my community was reignited in me. As I reflect on my skills and talents, I hope to find a way to uplift and grow alongside others.

Now that I'm on my third year as an economics major, I sometimes end up worrying that I won't be a "proper" economist at all and that all these years of taking economics would be for naught because of my incompetence. I worry that I won't be of any help at all, and that I'll just end up working for myself. However, what Ongkiko said about being able to choose to be a loving teacher and her working her way towards being that kind of teacher through each small decision that she makes reminded me that I'm still in control of the "kind" of economist that I will be in the future. It reminded me of what I am doing right now - studying and working hard to be an economist that can actually contribute something. Through Ongkiko's words, I was reminded that as long as I take the time to decide properly on even the smallest of things and learn to discern which actions would help me be the person that I want to become, I too can be of help to other people, and that I too can be as awesome as the economists that I have met and talked to.

We've been discussing future career plans in one of my classes recently and Ms. Ongkiko's story further validated the future I had for myself in mind. Ms. Ongkiko mentions how our paths should be an intersect of our personal desire, the needs of the community, and the most loving option for us to be able to give back to our community. We must always remain grounded in our pursuit for growth and compliment this with the heart to help better the conditions of our fellowmen.

I was just trying to survive, get good grades, and maybe have fun on the side. However, throughout my (limited) stay on campus, I have come to see the spirit of Magis and how it's embodied in the community. It's becoming more and doing more FOR others. It's not self-centered self-gratification but an actual and genuine care for others. It honestly reminded me of why I remained and served in my current org. We help a lot of students in everyday. We chose this job and remain willing to be of service to the LS Community as a whole.

Vocation not in the sense of a more profitable occupation, but vocation in a sense that she found her happiness in helping the youth through education. Her decision to choose the more loving option inspires me to do the same. Although it is easy to say, I know that choosing the more loving option has always been difficult; but Sabs showed how these difficulties are not reasons to stop. In fact, these are all the more reasons to become better. She inspires me to find where my vocation is, where the world needs me the most, and where I find happiness in addressing those needs. She inspires me to choose to live that vocation by overcoming the little challenges that come before getting there and when you are already there.

When she explained how the small decisions, even if they're as tiny as a spec, it does affect our overall being. During the pandemic, we also receive monthly ayudas, they're given in boxes where the contents would be kilos of rice, canned goods, and even powdered coffee but my family...we're just 3 people in the house, we can't even finish 1 month's worth of grocery. What I did was, I gather the canned goods, for every corn beef I pair it with sardines as for the fairness along with 1-2 kilograms of rice.

You know the people that live on the streets, where they would beg for spare change from drivers? Instead of giving them money, I just give them the ayudas that I packed, I do it every time I travel.

I notice that I've been giving a lot towards people, especially the ones who are PWD, specifically the mute and or deaf. I would always buy food /drinks from establishments that promote or have staff that are mute/deaf. My first time encountering one was when I bought a rolled up ice cream from elait, the problem was I didn't know the lady at the counter was deaf until I noticed that she writes everything she want to say on a whiteboard. It was a new experience along with (kind of) being a new 'culture' for me. After I received my order, the food was really good, that a thought suddenly popped...

Are there mute/deaf chefs?

The talk reminds me of the belief I have, that no matter what difficulty I find myself in, I will always keep going forward. Growing up, I've seen circumstances when people couldn't stand up for themselves. Sometimes, I was one of them. Now that I'm much older, I've come to realize that one of the things I would want to do is to help people against injustice and exclusion. I'm not quite sure how I'll do it, but I know that it's possible and that's all that really matters.

Miss Ongkiko's story actually hits really close to home for me. I, too, wanted to be a doctor for so long — from the moment I enter elementary school, all the way until my final years in high school. However, all of a sudden, I didn't want to push through with it. Somehow, even if I wasn't all that passionate about business and entrepreneurship, I suddenly wanted to take a business management major in pursuit of continuing my dad's business. This was because I saw how he treated his employees, all of whom were not necessarily "qualified" people who had years of experience in work or had complete educational backgrounds. These were people who didn't have much for themselves, but conversely had so much to give for the company. Listening to Miss Ongkiko's story reassured me that just because I'm not going down a path of saving people's lives, that doesn't mean I still can't do kind things for other people.

As of today, I am still undecided on which career I will take up on college, and seeing my peers have a definite plan pressured me. I realized that over the years, I love getting my hands dirty and experimenting with different resources and making something new. Although it still relates to the business aspect, I realized that this is a different side to it. By product designing I get to my creative side show, something that has usually been hidden for me. I do not know what this means for my future, but I do know I need to make the conscious choice to choose what I want to do, who I want to be for myself and for other people.

As a person, we are reminded that we aren't alone in this world and that all of our choices are bigger than ourselves. I think that recently, I've been thinking about myself a lot with my own prayers going to my personal success and my hard work centered towards what I can benefit from it. This talk realigns my view on what life is really about and on what type of person I want to be. I remember that I'm here to be someone good and to be a person for others, not just a person for myself. I remember that the life God gave me is a gift, and the talents He has blessed me with are meant to be shared.

Nearing the end of my college journey, I am getting more and more confused with which path to pursue after college. Do I study for the NMAT? Do I pursue a Master's or Doctorate degree? Do I start my own business? I want to achieve so many things and deciding which path I want to take is such a difficult thing to do. However, I realized, that no matter which path I take, what I truly want is to help others, specifically children. Although I am still not entirely sure what path to take, it is very comforting to know that my options are aligned with my heart's desire and soul's purpose.

Similar to her vocation, I have always been drawn towards social issues especially because I have been blessed with an education that emphasizes the importance of immersing oneself with such social issues. Overall, her story gave me hope that choosing the more loving option can make me happier despite it leading a less traditional lifestyle that is deemed to make one "happy". This means that happiness can be found in being a person for others rather than more materialistic goals.

The story of Sabs Ongkiko inspired me to be an empathetic person in whatever career I may take. As someone eyeing to land a corporate job in the future, I have been hearing things like "there are companies that have a man-eats-man culture," hearing this is very intimidating, nerve-racking, and above all, questionable. For me it is questionable because why would someone want to step on another person just to climb up the corporate ladder. I have always thought that, "do people in corporations really think that it is okay to step on another person as long as they get a promotion and salary raise?" But Ms. Sabs Ongkiko cleared my mind from these questions, she taught me that there could be loving people in different career paths. Therefore, if I were to be given a chance to land a corporate job, I shall be a loving person. Despite the tight competition in the corporate world, I shall help my colleagues if they are having a hard time. As well as clap for others when they succeed instead of envying them.

Sabs Ongkiko's reminds me that there is more than life than trying to make as much money as humanly possible, to gather as much wealth as possible. A trap that I admittedly regularly fall into. I remember wanting to help as many people as possible when I was younger, I genuinely wanted to become a philanthropist full-time by working something in an NGO. Her story has reawakened my desire, although I don't want to just give up everything and join a non-profit. I now realize that we should in fact think of more than ourselves and help people whenever we can.

Even though it seemed that she was set on becoming a doctor because of the course she had chosen and perhaps because of the initial plans she had, she took a step back and thought about the things that she did and was doing, in the past and present.

In fulfilling our God-given purpose, persevering with absolute excellence is needed. Having a purpose in itself is already an unfathomable blessing. And so, accomplishing a certain task must not be done haphazardly for the sake of merely doing it. It must rather be done with complete joy, dedication, perseverance, and excellence. This is also why Ms. Sabs Ongkiko chose not to be a teacher. She chose to be a LOVING and COMPASSIONATE teacher. There is definitely a huge difference between the two as the other would surely make a huge impact to the lives of those she is surrounded with. I am indeed reminded to fulfill my God-given purpose through serving with excellence. And I believe that throughout my journey here, I can trust God even in the gray areas of uncertainties of excellence at times. These gray areas are placed in our lives to further strengthen our God-given purpose and not the other way around. It is to recognize that fulfilling our purpose with excellence is not dependent on our strength but His.

Her story shows how she willingly chose to be a teacher, to be in service to others, instead of going for a higher paying job in the medicine industry. It really inspires me to zoom out of my work and become conscious of my actions wherein I come to ask myself if what I'm doing can also benefit others.

Sabs Ongkiko's story inspires me to to live out the spirit of Magis or choosing the more loving option. Her story is related to the concept of vocation that I learned in my theology class this semester. It was through those lessons and this story that I fully realize that we need to reflect and be brave enough to follow our true calling. We may believe that we should choose an option because that is what we grew up with and what everyone wants us to pick. However, I, now, realize that we should do things for others and for God. We must let go of our selfishness and self-serving desires and use our talents and energy into helping the people around us. This may be scary at times, but in the end it is our choice to be brave and be a loving person.

Sabs Ongkiko's story made me remember the word "passion" and how much I have lost touch with that word. Recently, I have been feeling as if life is system and I am just a robot that exists to follow the norms. To follow what people tell me SHOULD be done because it is what everyone is doing or it is what will give me a bright future. When I was younger, I had a passion for reading and writing. But because of the people around me telling me that being a doctor or a lawyer is the only way to live a good life, I pushed that dream aside, quit writing, and lost the will to read books that weren't suggested by my teachers. Now, I force myself to take up math and economic subjects because it is what is deemed "necessary" in the real (corporate) world. I wish I had the willpower to turn my back on everything and pursue something that genuinely satisfies my desires like Ms. Ongkiko.

Until now, I am still unsure of God's plan for me. At the very least, I will always be grateful for all the opportunities that have come my way. This is something that I have learned to do as a follower of Christ. Hopefully this journey of mine will eventually lead me to a path of what true happiness would be for me.

"Mahirap piliin maging isang mapagmahal na tao. Kasi kailangan mong lumabas at higitan ang sarili," this was a line mentioned by Ms. Ongkiko in her speech that struck me the most. It is indeed hard to be a loving person, especially to yourself. We can keep on loving and being there for the people around us, but sometimes we are afraid to make decisions of loving our choices. I actually applaud Ms. Ongkiko on her decision to continue and look back on her small decisions. From devoting her time to kids, having a vision for them, to being the ate or even a role model. These are sometimes the dreams that we miss out on. Doing something that we enjoy or love and pursuing something we plan may be two different things for each one. But choosing the former option, in my opinion, makes us more human- it makes us more connected to the people around us and rooted. I hope one day that I can pursue and make the same decision that Ms. Ongkiko did. To have the courage to choose what she has always loved and enjoyed without any regrets.

Sometimes, we think that we should get jobs that are related to our course or get a course because of the benefits. And that is perfectly fine. However, there is also a vocation that makes us happy and contented. We are called to serve His people with the talents and gifts that he has given us. She inspires me to be true to myself and be a more loving person. Being a loving person may be hard but it also manifests our compassion for another.

The story of Sabs Ongkiko inspired me to not worry and stress so much about where I am at in life. For the longest time, she wanted to become a doctor; however, her sudden awakening towards her vocation to educate showed me that it's okay to be uncertain of what I am currently doing or where I will end up. One day, God's plan will unfold for itself and show me what I am truly meant to be doing with my life. I just have to keep living a life of love and goodness and when the time is right, all my "small" decisions will amount to something great— similar to her own story.

[Choosing the more loving option]. Her story showed me that the more loving option doesn't always have to be self-sacrificial. Well to some extent, there is a lot to sacrifice by choosing the loving option. But by doing so, Ms. Ongkiko shows that standing by this more loving option makes one happy; it aligns oneself to his/her passions and allows one to be more mapagmahal through small and large actions

It made me think about how easy it is for us to overlook the small and minor decisions we make to do good for others when in reality, these decisions are what matters the most. It's easy for us to dismiss our own small efforts just because we don't immediately see its payoff, and we forget that sometimes, our presence and involvement is enough contribution to the change we want to see around us.

It actually reignited the desire to better myself in order to better the community. I knew that this desire was something I would feel often but would dismiss it as a selfish thought. I never knew that God would use this desire for me to be able to actually leverage whatever platform or position He would put me in to help people. The sad reality is, the heart is not enough. Without the means, I would be nothing and if nothing then how would I be able to speak and fight for those who have less than nothing? This is what often motivates me to attempt great things - that although I doubt myself often, or feel like there are things I would not be able to do - I am motivated to achieve because of other people. The poor, neglected, abandoned, oppressed - they need someone who will see them too.

What really inspired me from Sabs Ongkiko's talk is her perspective on life and what it means to be human. Instead of choosing the career path that would've opened many doors for her, she ended up choosing what she has always wanted to do: help the youth.

Her emphasis on compassion and love for others really touched my heart as it was something that I aspired to be as a kid.

I think everyone has had this moment in their lives before, feeling lost over what they want to do in their lives. No matter how prepared you seem to be for the future, because of the unpredictable nature of life it's hard to be prepared for everything. Because of this story I am even more determined to find out what I truly want from my life here on Earth. I hope as well to be able to help others through this goal I have for the future.

Her story inspires me as she believes that teachers are not only there to teach, they are there to touch lives at the same time. If all our teachers were to teach with the passion and thought of ms. Ongiko, the country will be in a better place. As, it always starts with our education, through our education we have the ability to change the country for the better. This story inspires because it shows how one can choose a passion with a purpose, which makes working more enjoyable and with a motivation to do your best on a daily basis.
