- Repetition, "this dick ain't Free". Repetition was used to stress that Kendrick's work and distribution for the world is not for free and can not be taken for granted. 

King Kunta:

- Symbolism, the word "yams" symbolises drugs in the song. An indirect word for drugs is used to create a light atmosphere around the song at first glance, making it easier to listen to, but at when listening again, and reading the lyrics, the song has a deeper, darker meaning.
