Holbein designed weapons, jewelry, tableware, and mantle pieces. However, he is most commonly known for his paintings. Hans Holbein was recommended by Anne Bolyen, one of Henry VII’s many wives. Holbein's painting sometimes took a disturbing stance. One of his most famous works of art, "The Body of the Dead Christ in the Tomb" as made viewers feel awkward since the beginning of its time. While may paintings of Christs sufferings can be used as a matter of devotion, his paintings displayed a different meaning.

In 1528, Holbein returned back to Basel, Switzerland because of what was assumed to be a project associated with the town council. He dedicated his work to them for the next 2 years. Hans Holbein made enough money to purchase a new house.

Religion

The same year as his return, Hans Holbein was admitted to Lutheran faith. By late 1520, he ended his work in terms of religious paintings. Holbein was not an entirely modern painter. One of his famous series of paintings called Dance of Death was not considered modern work.
