Milk is plausible because Hagar is delusional. Milk stopped liking her and wrote a note to her basically breaking up with her and gave her some hush money to leave him alone in Chapter 4 pg 91-93. Now every once a month Hagar tries to kill Milk but never succeeds at it because she freezes up before she can even do it . For reference in Chapter 5 , pg 123 Hagar tries to kill Milk while he was laying on Guitars bed; she was hanging on the rail outside and tried to stab him. Pg 130 she tries to kill him but she freezes up

Milkman's perspective was very knowing ( he was aware his actions were going to have major consequences )

The way Macon confronted Milkman just shows that his pride was shot and he did not feel any remorse for his actions he just wanted to teach Milkman a lesson about being " a man "to prove a point

The respect milkman has for his father never changed which is why he tried apologized to his father. He just felt the way his father acted wasn't okay and he acted on the undying love he had for his mother. Macon was aware of this and only told milkman the information so he would look at his mother as the woman she really is ( just as Macon see's her)
