In the beginning, we tried to think of something to make our tower secure so it doesn´t fall. After many tries, we managed to finish the base. After trying our best to make the tower secure, we had to find a way to make our lego man, move from one side of the classroom to the other , on a zip wire. The zip wire came from our tower and ended on a chair. This challenge was to see if our tower was secure and steady enough to make the lego man travel around it in a safe way. We found out that our tower wasn´t capable to hold our lego man in his trip to the other side safely because our tower was too light. We should have made stronger walls so that we wouldn't have to hold the tower to stay steady for the lego man trip!
Check out our video to learn more about our experience in class yesterday!

Observation:

We observed that it was better to make a large tower with a steady structure, making it hard for the tower to fall.

Hypothesis:

We thought that we would be able to create a giant and magnificent tower and that we could make it very steady.

Question:

The question we made to ourselves several times was: are we going to have time?

Our experiment:

When we finally started to establish our project and put it together we realised that we had spent too much time planning and that we planned too much. We had a dramatic change of plans and we had to make a smaller and weaker tower.

Our actual results:

Our result was that the tower, which was very unstable, fell a couple of times on the floor. We took some time to re-make it and finally, in the end, we made up a house that was strong and steady.

Towers Project !

We thought that the tower would be very sturdy, secure and tall.

Unfortunately, it didn't turn out so. It was sturdy, but not as much as we thought it would be; also, the tower was not tall enough. Luckily, it didn't break completely when it fell, which comparing to other groups was great! We realised that we needed to make it a bit steadier, stronger and taller. Although, we really liked our design, we also thought that the materials would be different and easier to be used. After a few tries, we learned that building is much harder than it looks like! In the second activity, we were supposed to reproduce real life by helping a lego man to cross the room using a zip line, attached from our tower to the leg of a chair. We found out that our tower was too light to hold the zip line with the lego man on it. Also, the pole that was holding the string "zip line" wasn't capable of handling the lego man's weight. In the end, we think we managed to complete the project. As mentioned, we had a few problems, nothing too worrying ... All in all, we really enjoyed working and planning our OUTSTANDING project

1-During the project, we started out with an interesting idea. Instead of immediately starting with the walls and moving onto the roof, we first carefully built a sturdy floor. We used lots of stabilisers for the edges, and then started with the first floor walls. After that, we built a triangular roof, and our house was finished. (Thomas Bainbridge named it “casinha da vovó”. )

2 - With that done, we attached a rope from the highest point of our house to a chair, and made a rope line for a lego man to cross from one side to the other. We taped the man to it, and we successfully slid the guy down. We filmed it on a phone and sent it to our teacher.

At first, our group thought about a good idea for a tower. It had to be resistant, strong and well structured; otherwise, it would fall. Before our “success”, we built a gigantic tower. However, it wasn't a lot of use because it collapsed 3 times! Then we realised that we were going for height, not for structure. Then, Antonia started doing another tower while Allan, Maria and Giovana were doing another. After discussing a bit as a group, we decided to stop Antonia’s tower and focus on ours. After 20 minutes, we completed our tower. We were very pleased with the result.

In activity two we had to do a lego man cross from our tower to a chair in a zip wire and after lot of hard working times we finally made it.
