The Spanish Lynx, also known as the Iberian Lynx, is the most rare species of Lynx. It is a smaller wildcat that is most active at night. They have distinctive pointed ears and a beard. Its natural habitat is open forest and sand dunes in isolated areas of Spain and Portugal.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iberian_lyn

The lynx doesn't have to worry about staying warm during the chilly winters where they live because they have a long, thick, warm fur coat that protects them. It is usually brownish-gray in color and some lynx have darker spots mixed in. Long fur also grows from their cheeks especially during the winter which looks kind of like a beard.

Lynx paws are large and wide and their toes spread out when they walk so they don't sink down. Their feet also help them walk quietly when they hunt. They also have a lot of fur on their feet which acts like the treads on the bottoms of your shoes and helps them get a grip on the snow.

The Spanish lynx has long, strong legs. Although they aren't great at running, they are great at sneaking up and pouncing on their prey like a housecat playing with a toy or a mouse.

In the wild, these rare animals tear the flesh off the bones prey. This is due to the very sharp barb on their tongues. This is why the common housecat has a tongue with a rough texture, but to the Spanish Lynx, their barbs are so sharp that human skin can be removed if they were to lick you. The curve of their tongue determines how sharp and how deep the barbs dig into the skin.
https://www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/mammals/group/lynx/

Having an unwanted tattoo removed takes several sessions which are very painful. Basically, the original tattoo process is reversed, but instead of ink in the needles, they are filled with form of acid that removes the color, much like fingernail polish remover removes unwanted fingernail polish. With each session, there are blisters from the acid burn and there is a lot of pain. Sometimes it can take many repeated sessions to remove old or unwanted larger tattoos.
https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fnews.bbcimg.co.uk%2Fnews%2Fspecial%2F2016%2Fnewsspec_14108%2Fmedia%2F700-img_1340-lr_lqbunp9.jpg&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bbc.co.uk%2Fnews%2Fresources%2Fidt-6b62f336-ff42-42b9-a23d-212d4d6ca5d8&docid=jI1jqWp1SkPOEM&tbnid=_Veov0GAhOmRgM%3A&vet=10ahUKEwijrpm3-P3kAhUK-6wKHa9fCs8QMwhRKAgwCA..i&w=700&h=500&safe=active&bih=621&biw=1491&q=image%20of%20blister%20arm%20from%20tattoo%20removal&ved=0ahUKEwijrpm3-P3kAhUK-6wKHa9fCs8QMwhRKAgwCA&iact=mrc&uact=8

"Lynx" to Noninvasive Tattoo Removal Oringinal Prototype:

Much like the barbs combined on a Lynx's tongue, the same idea could be applied to a medical tool that would allow patients, under local anesthesia, to undergo noninvasive tattoo removal in one visit. There would be minimal pain afterwards, but there would be no blistering, risking infection, and could be done on an outpatient status.

My prototype is designed like that of a Lynx's tongue with a rough texture that can remove the tattooed skin without cutting or blistering. This would be done with quick with low pressure swipes across the skin until the ink from the tattoo has disappeared. After the procedure, nothing more than a small bandage an some antibiotic ointment should be necessary.

LABELED PROTOTYPE #1:

What can make this prototype more effective?

After testing the original prototype using a fingernail file and a child's temporary tattoo, it proved to be more difficult to remove the tattoo than I had anticipated. Therefore, I researched a bit more and found that the barbs on the tongue needed to be longer, more curved and sharper than I demonstrated in the original prototype. Therefore, I created a second prototype increasing the number of barbs to scale and created more of a curve to each barb just as they are on the Spanish Lynx's tongue. This proved to be more effective by using a piece of sandpaper so that I could put the curve in the tongue-like prototype.

LABELED PROTOTYPE #2:

The Inspiration Behind It All...Microscopic Image of the tongue of a LYNX:

From what I researched, sandpaper was the closest thing I found that would work, as a prototype, to mimic the Lynx's tongue due to its very rough texture. I took a small block of wood (1.5 inch squared by 3 inches long), wrapped a course piece of sandpater to it and stapled them together. This represented the Lynx's barbed tongue. I then chose to use a small beach ball, not completely blown up, to represent the give in human skin when it is rubbed. I put a child's temporary tattoo on the beach ball and used my final prototype to lightly scratch away the unwanted temporary tattoo. This was an effective experience based on biomimicry and research done on the Spanish Lynx.

https://www.youtube.com
