It surprised me how they would get rid of them so easily, they would throw them off ships, cut off their ears, force them to dance, force them reproduce, etc. Another thing was how crowded the ships were, they were three and a half inches high and the slaves were all chained together.

Something that shocked me the most, is the lack of regard for the slaves. The people who sold their own people, from the owners who treated them worse than livestock. And that a whole lot of people, approved of this, and that it took so long for slavery to be abolished.

After examining slavery, one of the things that had shocked me the most would've been the way slaves kept in the Middle Passageway would commit sucicide in beliefs that their souls would return to their home. They were so desperate to escape their situation that they deemed taking their own life as the best choice.

After examining slavery the thing that surprised me the most was that Africans were often kidnapped and were enslaved. Another thing that surprised me was that enslaved Africans were put onto small cargo ships that were only about 3 ft. tall and there were many of them crammed into a small area. Lastly, I was also surprised that even though slavery was made illegal there were still boat routes that carried slaves to the United States, and no one was doing anything to directly stop it.

After seeing documents and pictures of slaves and their treatment I was most shocked at how they were treated as commercial products. Slaves were not treated like humans, they had no moral value in society. Slaves were either thrown off ships as disposables once they were dead. Slaves, fearing their owners, died from fear of them by ending themselves. Pregnant women, children, and families were seperated from kidnappers. Some cut off ears while others were malnourished and died of disease from other slaves or during the journey.
