- in order to protect social welfare, groups like the YMCA were created, which “opened libraries, sponsored classes, and built swimming pools and handball courts”
- during the reform, people called for prohibition of alcohol because they believed it was responsable for crime, poverty and violence 
- muckrakers, often magazine journalists, helped lead the way for political reform by exposing corruption through writing 
- a part of the plan was to make local and state governments more efficient and responsive to its people
- many initiatives, or bills that originate form the people, were calles during this time of reformation
