Your attitude plays a big role in chasing your dreams, it can either help you out or become an obstacle and get in the way. Ben Carson's dream was to be a neurosurgeon, but as a young adult, he had quite the temper. Those two things don't go together at all. When performing surgery, the surgeon must stay calm and steady to ensure the best results. In order to pursue his dreams he had to get rid of his temper, and to do that, he prayed to God. Like a miracle, his temper was gone. He was now a calm man and becoming a neurosurgeon seemed more realistic.

To some people, a black doctor was a joke. Before Ben was known as a successful black surgeon, patients would down upon him, assuming he was another worker and not the actual doctor. There were even some fellow medical workers that just didn't like him for his color. But Ben knew better, he knew he was better. He didn't let the hate get to him or get offended when people thought he was white, and now he's worldly known as a sucessful man

Danielle was one of Ben's failing surgeries. This operation made Ben realize that not every failing surgery was his fault and that he had done everything he could have. It just didn't work out. He learned he had to get over stuff like this and that as long as he tried his best, it was okay.

Getting into a good school would be difficult but Ben worked hard and got good grades.
